good flashgun? (£20~)
hey all, i've got a canon EOS 1000, film SLR and i'm looking for a cheap, decent flashgun for it. any tips and stuff would be great, also i have a question i want to ask as i'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to film; is the flashgun customisable, ie. lightness etc?
thanks. |

you aren't really going to get one for that price unless you go second hand
my vivitar 285hv cost me $80 from america (though I was over there otherwise you will get custom charges) It is a full manual flash so you can control the light from it. A touch on the large side though. As you are using a film camera I believe you can get the original 285 which there are some on ebay. Though be warned they shouldn't be used on a digital camera due to the voltage of them. You would need the newer 285hv to be safe on those. Another popular one is the nikon sb800 iirc (nikon flashes are pretty good) Though if you get either of those you won't be able to utilise TTL control. http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/02...f-classic.html Take a look around the strobist blog. There is lots of useful lighting info on there. Gadget Infinity (ebay shop) sell the newer 285hv, they also have compatable and cheap wireless triggers should you want to use the flash off your camera. I got some and for the money they are great. Unfortunetly as you are using film, you don't get the benefit of throw away test shots for free, or the feedback for that matter. You will probably end up costing yourself more film while you play about with it. I hope I've covered the bases somewhat for you, my knowledge is limited somewhat, as I am still learning myself, but I'll try and answer any further questions you have. |

This one doesn't look too bad:
http://www.cameras2u.com/Store/s5759...cb1033ca022975 Automatic mode for 2 different apertures. Manual mode. The film thing could be problematic since you dont have an lcd to review the images on and make adjustments. |

thanks for the great input, i'm currently reviewing my situation and i'm thinking of perhaps upgrading to digital...
i doubt i can afford it though, and i'll probably take up on something similar to the flash you've shown me morbid. thank grumble, i am definitely going to have to go second hand via ebay to get something relatively cheap. |

update: i've purchased the following flashgun:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=011 it seems reasonable enough, i'll post my experiences with it as soon as i can, it cost exactly £20 luckily. thanks again for the advice! |

well it was cheap but from the looks of it you have no option with regards to the angle of it
I might be wrong but I don't think you will be able to use it for bounce light, unless you take it off camera of course |
