College O.o

So I'm a Jr in high school this year so I'm starting to look for colleges.
At this point I'm trying to find a school in California (preferably near LA) that has a good Graphic Design/Photography program and isn't too expensive.
I don't want to keep myself limited to specifically art schools either, and a Christian college always sounds good to me.
I'm wondering if anyone has any reccomendations?

My top choice as of now is Azusa Pacific.
I looked at Brooks Institute and was in awe but then I looked at the tuition...
Needless to say I won't be going there.

Did you know what you wanted to go on to do, or are you hoping to find out at college.

If photography is your aim there is a lot of thought that getting a job as a photographic assistant, is possibly an option you might want to consider instead.

I think I'm hoping to find out in college. There are SO many possibilities...it's kind of hard to think through them all.

Getting a job as a photographic assistant sounds like a really good idea, I don't think my parents would go for it though. Especially my dad. :/

I know a lot of schools in Australia have really good photography programs. I know you want to be in LA, but I think Australia is cheaper and there are a lot of programs to choose from. Even ANU has programs in digital and visual arts, and they're ranked the 16th best university in the world. England also has a lot of programs to choose from, but I'm not sure about prices.

In America I've heard of more options for photography programs on the east coast. American colleges/universities tend to be more expensive I think, but then again you're from Japan and universities in Japan are expensive in comparison too.

Oh man no way I'm going to school in Japan. I would sooner consider somewhere outside of CA than Japan.

I think you should consider some CSU and UC as a possibilty Im senior now and want to go into graphic design as well. Have you checked out Academy of Art University thats on my top list. I'm tight for money as well, and thats why you should really get started on scholarships. Fastweb.com and Cappex.com are good scholarship websites that you should look into. Hope that helps.

All schools on the west coast tend to be much more expensive than those on the east. Going further east may be beneficial. I'm at RCAD right now as a freshman photo major, and I'm quite happy with it. They also have an excellent graphic design program.

Any art school is obviously going to be expensive, it just becomes a matter of how expensive.

As for Brooks, it's best that you steer away from them. Too expensive, and they're not the school they used to be. I too looked into them, but the fine print has you pre-paying for their college before they even accept you, and after your three years there's no guarantee that you'll have work afterward. There was a case against them that threatened to dis-accredit them as a college.
