Nadim's Scraps

Hi, I've posted on the old forum before; but my stay was so brief i'll reintroduce myself.

My name is Nadim, I'm 16 years-old and I live in sweden.
I've always liked photography but I hadn't really seen the art behind it until about a year ago~
My english skills aren't really the greatest, but I think I do okay (be sure to expect some grammar and spelling errors in the future).
Hum.. What else?.. ooh yeah.. my gear:

Canon 400D with a 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM lens
I have the 18-55 kitlens aswell, but I hardly use it.
I also have a Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash; I got it after a couple of weeks (that's a couple of weeks ago) reading strobist; damn that's addictive!

Ahwell, on to my pictures..
I'll post some of my older and some newer work.

@Bradjames: Thank you for those kind words, I like those pictures aswell

New picture, this one was more of an experiment with lightning but I think it turned out alright ^^

I held the key up using a couple of flowersticks and some tape (wich I edited out in post).
I used a gridded Sigma EF-530 DG Super on 1/16 and an old toshiba flash that I handheld and fired off using the test button.
Aperture 25
Shutterspeed 0.5s (I needed the extra time to shoot off the toshiba flash manually)

I hate spambots.

This shoot was aloooooot of fun xD
Anyways, I lit them both with a bare flash on a stand and I used my 28-105 on 400D to shoot them.

I'd love some feedback!

@Purplerose: I hid one of those long gaslighters behind my hand with my other arm to create the flame. Then i set the exposure at f/6,3 ISO 400 and a shutter speed of 1/13th (to burn in the flame a bit). To create the rimlight I had my flash on a stand right behind my hand on 1/128th of full power (bassicly the lowest).
Glad you liked the picture!

I was over at my friends place the other day, he lives at an island with a pretty cool-looking environment; these are the results:

23. I'm not really sure about how to crop this one, and the colors; would black and white look better?

27. My favourite of the bunch. ^^

Comments are as always, GREATLY appreciated.

Ah, thanx for the info.

Pretty nice work in 25 & 26. In 26 I would crop a bit from the top to help the composition.

Portraits :O

Update!

For the portraits I'm using my Sigma EF-530 DG Super on a stand and a shoottrough umbrella at camera left.

I'm not really sure about the framing on this one.

@27 and 28

Honestly, my least favorite of all the ones you have posted so far. While it's cool that you're using prtrait material and experimenting, I don't think you chose the right photos to expose. The light shining straight onto her makes all her circles under the eyes and creases magnified, and, although 29 is softer, you can still see the neck ridges and circles under the eyes- better position tho.

Hope you don't mind the criticism/

I don't mind at all, thank you!

Your right; I hadn't noticed I'll keep that in mind next time I shoot!

I have a bunch of photos that I haven't uploaded due to the fact that I thought this forum had died, seems like it hasn't!
