Go Skateboarding Day.
Hi There,
My first post since this place has been turned into its own entity. Got a chance to photo some pros... Park skating but none the less. Commerce city, Independent demo, sponsored by The Denver Shop. Rick Howard, Geoff Rowley and a few others. Used my Canon Rebel xti with my ef 400 lens. 100 and 200 iso, small f-stop... Between 1000th and 2000th of a second. Mad zoom. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by igorstshirts; 06-24-2008 at 01:37 AM. |

Get wider, get a lot wider. These show people doing *something*, but there's no sense of scale, no indication of what the approach is (rough, smooth, short, what?) how big it is (the rail could be 6 stairs or 40) or what the landing is like. The timing is good, but you're not showing everything that's vital to a skate shot. Also, they're underexposed for my liking.

What's up ukanfoff,
I think the darkest darks and the lightest lights are in place but they could use some bounce/fill light on the faces for sure... Hey klips, I did shoot them wider but cropped them as they look more dramatic scaled up. The emphasis was more on the actual skater than the trick... Since it was park skating. Thanks... Later! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

if u did shoot them in raw, add some exposure to it.
and when the skaters in air, their background is very busy. take shots from a diff perspective.

I like all of the uncropped ones more, although the third one should be ditched in both cases IMO as the dude in the foreground ruins it. Still, the first and fifth should be even wider, I still dont' know how many steps there were, and the first one is still too tight for my liking. It's all about context! Think of it this way, you have someone in the air and nothing indicates what they're coming off. It could be: someone getting 1' air off a 15' halfpipe, someone getting 20' air off a 1' kicker or anything in between as far as we know.

Pretty nice photos. Listen to klips and ukanfoff, they're the masters here on this type of photography.
