job coming up soon
okay, so soon i have to go to my aunts house to take pictures of my two cousins in their dancing costumes.
i only have an advanced P&S but thats not what im worried about. im worried about lighting and a background. i dont think i want to take a backdrop with me. is there anything i should consider when chosing a room to shoot in based on lighting?

hey there! that job sounds like fun!
i guess one thing you should go for is a room with 2 windows on opposing sides. i have the luxury of such a room - and it has a red painted wall which makes it a really good place for taking portraits. if you can't get two windows, look for one. since you don't want to get the typical "window backlight", you should be able to photograph in a 45 degree angle from the window. ask your aunt whether she has any floor lamps you can use to light the side that has no window. a flexible floor lamp is great, since you can direct it up to the ceiling and create a bounce light that isn't that harsh. look out for shadows on the wall behind your models. place them a little away from it and maybe use the "portrait" program of your p+s to get a blurry background. white paper, placed to reflect the window light is also a great tool to get some brightness in there. well, that's what i came up with right now. wish you all the best for that assignment, have fun! |
