Question on Critiquing

Just curious what this board's position on posting images with a critique is.

I'm on a few boards where, if you give a critique, it's required to include an image illustrating your point. If you didn't, you'd really catch it for not backing up what you're saying.

Other boards I'm on, on the other hand, DIScourage posting an image with a critique, on the grounds that it might shift the focus from the OP's posting.

What say ye? I don't want to get in trouble or upset people...But I also haven't read all the rules everywhere yet.

Either way is fine.

Most of the veterans here either ask first or they post an image anyway and remove it later if the original photographer wants it removed.

Personally, I only use visuals if asked. Unless, a visual will get my point across better, then I post anyway.

Normally, you can tell by the attitude of the photographer, if they would appreciate a visual or not.

If the new forums will keep the spirit of the old forums this will be a very civil place.

And I say that as someone who has tried various photography sites for both giving and receiving critique and has by now rather exclusively settled on CA for this aspect of exhange over the web about photography.

so...

has in the past never(? at least to my knowledge) been a problem.
Looking forward to your contributions, both in visual and text form.

Aw, I really wanted to act angry at you for even asking, but the nice guys got in first.

What they said, do what you want, if someone has a problem with it they'll tell you.

Hahaha, you mentioned rules. They're only in the challenge, as for the rest, just be friendly.
