Where should I start??

Ok...I want to get into photography and have no clue where to start. All these lenses and mm's or w/e I have no bloody idea about. And at the moment I'm just using an (atleast I think) olympus camedia camera or sumthing lyk that from lyk, billions of years ago??? it's the digital one, lol. Not anywhere near the hi def pixels and stuff the pro's on here hav :P it's not even classed as a real camera after seeing the stuff on here. So if you guys have any clue as to where a complete photographic retard (if that makes sense :P) can start, like just picking out a good camera to start out with would help obviously. I'll stop rambling now

p.s. something in the budget range of a 14 year old please, lol. if u don't know wot that is nothing over ...well a ridiculous price? lets say 200 is the limit ;P

I would recommend a SLR if you want to learn the basics, you can get a used Canon 300D with kit lens for us$200.

There are lots of others, but be sure you have full manual mode and preferably an optical viewfinder (SLR).

oh and may I ask one more thing? do these fancy cameras hook up to the computer for instant editing? or with SLR will i be scanning it all in ? lol.

You an also check your local photo equipement shops - many smaller shops nowadays are selling second hand stuff and at least in Austria, Germany, and Greece most let you try the equipement before buying it

Yes, the ones i listed are all digital, which means you'll be able to download the pics to your computer.

And I agree with Nike, check your local stores first. That way you'll be able to hold the camera and see what it feels like. And it will be easier to bring it in if you have any problems with it.

Whoot just what I need then, just my mum said she had an old SLR camera but it's on film. Yes it makes perfectly logical sense to go to a store instead lol because amazon and ebay aren't...as trustworthy :P. Well it looks like I've got some saving to do, but I hope it's worth it (which i'm sure it will be)

so, you mum has a film slr camera?

Ask her if she'd borrow it to you, read a book about photography (search your library - there are plenty of good old books on the basics of photography around) and start shooting until you've found your digital one. You don't have to start out with the most expensive film. You can learn a whole lot shooting with an analogue cam if you want to

Thanks for the advice nike. I thought of doing that, and I think I just might now you've suggested it to :P It's just having to wait for the film to be printed off or whatever it's called. But I think I'll have a go with it to get a feel, and yes I defo need to read a book on photography to understand what the hell I'm doing, or atleast a vid or 2 on youtube :P lol. Ultimately what I'm aiming for is to shoot people and then sort of manipulate them oh photoshop and so on(which means I'll have to to can the film in you see)....like some of the photo's in the portraits section of the forum's. As long as it's hi-def, that's what I'm aiming for.

P.s. is this camera any good to? It might be an old model but it's possibly in my price range. Don't worry I'm not going to run off and buy it like a loonatic! lol, I was just curious...
