Disturbed - John's Surreal Shots

Hey all,

I've recently began shooting a new series of shots, focusing on the broad theme of 'surreal portraiture'. Well, I say began, but much of my recent work, especially the gas masks, fall under the same category

Anyway, here is the first shot in the series. I must admit the shoot itself wasn't particularly successfull. My photography lecturer wasn't there to advise me, my model was late (not his fault, he was having his driving test which he passed ) So I had rely on the advice of the technician. That being absolutely nothing, except him saying 'hurry up, I want to go home'. He didn't even tell me where the all the lights were stored so I had to make do with what was there.

Well anyway, I thought all was lost on the way home. Then I decided to play around with one of the shots in Photoshop, and i'm surprised that it isn't so bad after all. Things could have been a lot better organised for the shoot itself, but the results arn't as bad as I thought

This was, I think, one of the last photos from the shoot. I think it would be better if the hand was in shot, and yes, before you say it, the nose does look like it has been stuck on in Photoshop. It actually hasn't, it's one of those clown noses you can buy, but i'm not sure how to make it look more authentic! Advice?

Returned to the studio with my trusty gas mask and captured another shot. Similar to my other gas mask shots but with more character

Indeed, it has more character. Could have better contrast though.

Oh I kind of like the 3rd one. Agree with purplerose that I would like a little more contrast too.

Means a lot coming from you two. I must admit I like the dark contrast in it, but i'll try adjusting it a bit.

Now, if my models just got their act together and agreed to a date for a shoot would get some more shots done. So many times I have a time agreed and they just puss out. If that's even a term. God it annoys me.

The first one has a really creepy mood. I think it could have a bit more contrast without losing the mood though. May look interesting as a B/W.

I like the last one too. Looks really great as a B/W. Kinda wish the model hadn't moved though, but the slight blur adds to the mood.

Good stuff.

Thanks! Everyone keeps commenting on this 'blur' but I can't see it! I thought at first it was the hood but that's just the fur I think, my friend said the bit of shadow at the bottom but that's hardly anything!
