The Photo Challenge : Still Life // deadline 10 march

And please don't post macro shot's. Still Life is about a solid composition and perfect light and, yes, an interesting subject.
soe let see how manage this one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Only one picture per contestant.

2. No voting for your own picture.

3. No previously used material. All photos must be fresh, shot for this challenge, and never displayed on any gallery / thread.

4. The winner of the last poll will set the next topic; if the same person stands as the winner two times in a row, he or she must choose another user to present the next topic.

5. In the event of a tie in the polls, the person who created the challenge casts the tie breaking vote.

6. Enhancements of the picture are allowed in terms of color management, curves, levels, crop, sharpening, etc. Adding or removing elements in the photo, brushed enhancements, or anything that diverts into photo manipulation territory will not be accepted.

7. The challenge starts when the challenge thread is opened. It is open for new entries for 14 days, after which the vote poll is opened by the challenge starter. If (s)he fails to do so, anyone is free to open the voting thread. The voting thread should have all the entries in it and have public voting to prevent cheating.

8. The voting will go on for 3 days, then the winner (or other person assigned to start a new challenge, see rule 4 and 5) starts a new thread named "The Photo Challenge - [name]", where [name] indicates the topic of the new challenge. If he fails to do so within the day the poll ends, the next person in the poll may do so.

10. Pictures should have a title to make them easy to identify, however this is optional.

11. Do not attach your entry to the thread, instead use an external host such as photobucket.com or imageshack.us, to allow hotlinking from the voting thread.

you create an account (e.g. on photobucket)
you upload the photos to photobucket
you copy the image location (something like http://i80.photobucket.com/photos/de...illlifelol.jpg)
you paste it, write at the end
repeat for any further photos.

Easy. As. Pie.

PS: Go Australia!

No challenge B and our nice debate on how to handle manipulation vanished in the archives... I'll give you a rundown of all of my manipulations (quite a few) and you decide wether your line is crossed:

- cross-processed fuji sensia 200@400ASA,
- pushed by one-stop,
- scanned,
- levels
- curves
- cropped,
- contrast control (layer methods + masks),
- colour corrected
- cloning of
|->dust and unwanted artifacts
|->as well as disturbing high contrast element in the background I couldn't figure out the origin of,
- selectively sharpened,
- framed

Found Still Life (please click image for high resolution)

one of my first attempts. I might change the entry, in case I manage to put something better together.

my climbing - "hardware". what a poetic subject, heh?

complete list of manipulations (following mu )

+ curves
+ framing
+ title
+ light crop

daedicurus - clever with the frame inside the frame. I also like the light green against dark green and the elaborate folds. A hard combination to get the exposure right for.

Asadex - the combination of pottery and the light gravel is really beautiful and serene. While the arrangement looks really kinda randomly arranged or "found" (which I think is a good thing) the whole setup looks a bit too crowded for my taste. Maybe that's got to do with the tight crop. I can't really find a place to rest my eyes on.

EDIT:

It's pottery found in an ancient roman house in the north of Italy

Kendra, that was exactly the same idea I had! (well not _exactly_... but to use my little wooden art mannequins) I'm still thinking of trying to get something set up. I wasn't happy with anything I got the other night though (from the set that the one I posted in my scrapbook came from). Ah, well...

Here's my contribution:

Bleeding Light

KendraJ.K I really like the concept and execution of yours

Asadex Yours is beautiful and i love the colours, but the diagonal line across the top of the pots i find distracting. I think i find it distracting because its cropped too tight in the top left and maybe a little tight in the bottom middle.
