Born into Brothels
I saw this very sad but very inspiring documentary film on Sundance called Born into brothels. Its about this Photographer named Zana Briski who goes to Calcutta India to do a photo documentary on the red light district. And she realizes that it would be very difficult to take pictures there because everything that goes on there is illegal (Prostitution, drugs, etc) and no one would probably let her take them. so what she does is she gives cameras to a bunch of children that she meets there and she teaches them how to use them
and they take great photos.so if u got cable, look for "Born Into Brothels" on sundance or go rent the dvd if its at your local store. just thought id let everyone know. |

Oh, I saw that film a few years ago, it was really good
There was one boy in particular that had an amazing eye.I'm always curious how much money she actually spent on the kids and whether she was involved in a particular organization... I can't remember if they discuss it in the film or not... I was in India (HP) almost a year ago. I was volunteering, but they basically looked at my skills, decided photography wasn't a "handy" enough skill to teach the young people, and made me teach computers... I was very sad, but I made sure to do a couple of lessons on photoshop at least ^.^ I just remember thinking about how I would love to teach photography like Zana Briski...
