Coming back, questions

Hey not sure if anybody here will even remember me anymore, it's been such a long time :P I've been without a camera for a good while now and have sorta gotten out of the loop as far as new cameras coming out and stuff.

I had a Nikon D50 before, and am looking to replace it now. I was looking at the D60 and it seems nice enough... does anybody have any suggestions? I definitely want to stay w/ Nikon, but is the D60 much better than the D40, or is the D80 worth that much more so as to justify buying it before the D60?
