Josie's Funk Bustin' Shots

So my new friend purplerose encouraged me to get into all the different things here at PhotographyMob. I've been in a funk for the past year, I'll blame it on being too busy with school. Just to give you an idea, I went from 15 shots a day (and a roll a week) to maybe 1 shot every two weeks. So to bootstrap this thing and to get myself motivated, I'm going to try stick with this thing. Here are two to start with...If you want another ideas of my shooting check out my dA account and Flickr account for more. I'm open to critique, but keep in mind not everything I do is real serious.

Warning: If you're allergic to noise, please look away. My sensor goes to shit with anything over ISO 100. Yay for advanced P&S's

While purplerose was cowering in basement on Tues Night, I was 4 stories up manning a tripod. Nothing too spectacular, but that specific wall cloud did drop another tornado, and was responsible for killing 14 people only 20-30 miles away.

On a lighter note:
1/5 s
6.3mm
ISO 400
2.5.2008 - 9:33PM

Sorry I skipped Sat. I was at home and didnt take my laptop with me. Here is Sat and Sun respectively.

They only real highlight of my Sat was the Teapot service at the bookstore in my hometown.

f/3.2
1/30
ISO 365 (Auto)
Stopped down 0.3
WB fixed in Camera Raw + Contrast & Sharpen after resize in PS

Despite how it looks, I work a decent amount of time on this. I'd like to return one day when I don't have a ton of assignments yet to be finished. In case you're wondering my fav copy "The Rite of Spring" with the LA Philharmonic directed by Zubin Mehta was not harmed in the making of this shot. My jaw was however....

Purpose: Practice indirect illumination

f/3.2
1/30
ISO 100
Stopped down 1
Self-timer
Large White Posterboard as reflector
Me, the greasy mo-fo

I didnt remember how i should be shooting until the eclipse was well along. I dont know if this is one the books anywhere, but I reasoned out that the smaller the aperture the better. (I thought about a camera obscura...) Some of my later ones looked pretty good.

hey guys, i didnt know where else to put this so here goes:
I saw this pic on the flickr "everyone else's" and since its around exam time, I could help but fire up PS, since I have absolutely too much stuff to do right now. This picture is from http://www.flickr.com/photos/ljwheeler/2452234366/, and is not under creative commons, its just public. So I wanted to see what I could do with the club flash, slightly inebriated pics, which everybody but me seems to take and which i love so much *eye roll*
Original:

Mine: after post
Any comments or suggestions? (leave composition out because it's not my pic and i didnt feel like cropping someone elses stuff)

8 is a really good portrait! Perfect colors and I think the very soft light and shadow in the face is very nice.

I think that flickr photo has definatley improved by your editing - the skin looks much more naturally and soft.
But I think it would be even more interesting to try out light techniques when taking similar photos - experimenting with speedlights and avoiding direct light...

Thanks Nike, I'll keep that in mind next time I go to the club. lol. I will try to get me some decent flashes so I can show my own work and not something off of flickr. Thanks for the ideas.

@ all y'all: schools out and I only work half the week, so look for some new shots!
