25 for a month?

If it sounds cool, you should post a startup thread in Contests and Challenges.

I just had a thought. If you take this further, you should have people post all of their photos in their own separate thread in the scrapbook area and then link to them in the main scavenger hunt thread. That way, the page won't load forever and will look cleaner.

out of your element.

adapt a style that your not used to.
used to macro, do some landscapes.
used to portraits, do action shots.
the point is to step out of your comfort zone.

maybe this should be challenge or something..

@Mr. Mu: 2 different sites.

one of them is filled with people throwing around compliments and the other is dominated by a buddy system. By buddy system, I'm speaking of not giving someone a critique on something because they are an "elite" but critiquing the hell out of someone for posting a similar photo because they are not an elite.

Ah, I see...

for a second I was afraid it had happened here. This place is the only one left where I post pics for criticism in order to learn and make some progress.

I tried conceptart, photosig, flickr, and the german website fotocommunity.

fotocommunity is buddy based in that people post comments in a you-scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours manner. Mostly, they want to hear braindead compliments about their work. They have a section for presenting photos which says "criticism - direct and tough" (implying brutal honesty) which ironically says it all as all the other sections seem to be meant for the opposite kind of critique.

flickr I mainly use to post pics into the strobist group now and then and into groups which focus on my interests. The forums are technically a nuisance, but the signal to noise ratio is really good, esp. in the strobist forums.

photosig is strange. A strange place. Its black and white section (sorted by highest rated) features loads of the finest b/w photography you can see across the web. But the people who run the site stress that it's not meant to be a gallery site. The critique mechanism is: you get more free uploads for giving critique, esp. if you are among the first three to crit a pic. But it seems people just like to buy a premium membership (high amount of uploads) and give a shit about c&c ever after.

Conceptart.org focuses on the forums. It says "communication!".
It is so inherent in the technology that you don't need to push people by allowing them higher upload quota if they stoop so low as to give a meaningful criticism. It just happens. I think my old thread nicely demonstrates how helpful forum communication can be for learning this stuff.

Long story short:
*eyes suspiciously 'round the corner*
I've been around the web, Jerrica! It's a weird place for photographers!
Therefore:
- show your stuff at flickr
- read up on technical issues on photo.net (but don't register!)
- browse through photosig (but don't post!)
- for a place focused on work, learning, honest information and friendly (albeit sometimes weird) communication: come to conceptart.org

^^
