Nice exposure and atmosphere to it.
![]() Next time try to put a person in there to see if you can get some creepy eyes peering out, or any other object to create a denser story. Feels like there is a slight blur?

I like the dhildlike subject matter. But I think it could be shot better to account for it.
If it was from a slightly higher perspective it would make it look innocent, and less like an older girl pretending to be younger than she is. Also if you used a longer focal length lens; it looks like you've used quite a wide-angle, it would flatten some of the depth in the image - the wide angle is emphasising the length of her legs, which is irrelevant and a little distracting. I would also look at colour correction of your main light, as it seems somewhat out of place next to the candlelight. I'm nitpicking and I like the Image. All the best, Colin |

Colin- nitpicking is how better images are made. If i wanted generalisties I'd show it to my political science proffesors
![]() and I agree on several of those things, though personally i like the way her leg works. Alot of the problems with the image are a thing of a lack of ability to do it. The main light source was a lamp with a 'snoot' (pieces of twisted poster board, had to turn off the light in between shots b/c the poster would start smoking) and I tried to correct for it in photoshop but could only go so far before i was getting undesired color shifts. Its a work in progress =) rose- yeah, it is a bit blurry, but thats post production.. i was trying to do that porcelain skin look in photoshop using layer masking and gaussian blur. its one reason i put it up, to see if others thought it looked as blurry as I did! Back to the grindstone with that. thanks to everyone for the feed back! |

if the blurring was done post to achieve a certain skin look, try masking off just the skin
my first impression was that it was too soft (again due to the blur) also feels a bit odd the way her back is lit up, the scene looks like it should be lit from the candle and dunno something strikes me being a bit wrong with it perhaps cause there is no ambient light in the background in contrast? try the shot playing around with the light sources and see how the changes compare |

grumble- I softened the robe too just ot see what it looked like. Ill take it back to the 'drawing board' and play with it more.
as for the lighting.. thats exactly what my design prof said. That the lighting isn't really believable. I'm trying to figure out how to compose it to get the amount of detail I want, but make the lighting believable. Shouldnt be too hard I wouldn't think, but ill have to play around and see. good thing my model only requires payment in coffee. |

Hmm, try to see if you can put some sort of light source in the chest?

This was shoot with a friend in my photo classes for her website. trying to get that dog to look at the camera was nigh impossible. I even had treats.

here's some more. The first three are my first attempt at doing window light portraits.. class assignment. these were near the end of the shoot, when I grabbed her sister to hold my reflector. Note to self: flimsy white poster board makes a crappy reflector =P.
The last image is from a wedding I helped out with. sepia toned, and cleaned up quite a bit. it suffered from quite a significant bit of noise sadly or else id make it real big... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Here is an idea:
Try the pose of your brother down with his paintball gun and gear outside of the studio. Put him in tall grass and get him dirty, just as you would be when you are in a game. Have him focus at a far off distance. The more you can blend him in with the surroundings the more of a feel you can get for the sport. Down and dirty, mud, grass, doing what it takes to get that one good shot. The one posted has the feel of a catalogue shot, which if that is what you are after great, but if you want him as a badass, put him in the environment, some of the best portraits are not pretty. Have fun and explore all the possibilities. The natural light ones look good. The skin tones are nice and the model looks relaxed and natural. The one of the girl from the wedding has great composition and the eyes show the smile. |
