Really love "soon to be" "abloom" "woven perspective" "singing bowl" and "see-through" Really great colors and composition in those. Would play around more with cropping and rotating in "abloom" though.

Mr. Mu is funny.

haha, thanks so much, mr. mu! i'm flattered and glad you like the latest pics!

and of course: thanks jerrica for having another look. your crit regarding "soon to be" is exactly what i thought when i looked at it a little later - will do as you suggested. thanks!

quick update - last couple of days have been dominated by the colors green and yellow. everything is really bright those days. i guess, summer is coming! so i unpacked my analog f1.8 lens from the sixties and had some fun outside...

"soft splash"

Really love the first two! The softness gives them a surreal feeling. The second one would make an awesome desktop wallpaper.

thanks, jerrica! glad you like them - i slowly get a hang of my old analog lens from the sixties that i like to use on my eos 350d. it has this "insane" f1.8 that is a lot of fun to shoot with.

here are some more shots i took with it: today's and yesterday's photo:

"group hug"

"younglings"

Really love the DOF in "younglings" Seems it would be perfect for a square crop though, or maybe a collage?

thanks so much for the kind words and the tipps, you two!
perfectly right about the crop of "younglings" - i already used it for a collection of photos i put together from time to time. the photo you see here isn't cropped because i load all pictures of this thread directly from my website and i use a fixed format there.
anyway, great suggestion. much appreciated!

so, here's a quick update before i need to get back to work:

"red alert"

"back to green(ish)"

"open hearted"

"helicopter landing platform"

"elwood"

"unforgettable"

I like the red tones in "red alert." I feel it could be sharper though and possibly some better contrast and tighter cropping as well.

I like the green/blue contrast in "back to green(ish)." i wonder if it was possible to include the all of the flowers with minimal cut offs on the left side and the bottom?

Love the contrast and colors in "helicopter landing platform."

"elwood" is a sweet photo.

Love the DOF in "unforgettable." I'm thinking it could use some playful cropping though.

thanks, guys!
ment - yeah, you're right, that's a bright, bright yellow. but the reality was even more mindblowing. felt like it got burned in my retina. and the camera chip. i actually toned it down a little in photoshop, because otherwise it would've been way too much. maybe i should've desaturated it a bit more. thanks for the tipp!

sorry for the lack of updates, load of work to do and we're looking for an apartment in a new city right now etc.etc.
but here we go:

"simple patterns (life's complexity gets way overrated)"

okay, here's another bunch. it has been quite busy lately, looking for a new apartment in another town, handing in my thesis, working, etc... so, sorry for the absence. just couldn't find the time to post besides my own little photoblog. but here we go:

"street still life"

"blue sky & sunshine"

"signed, sealed, delivered" (our new apartment)

"chandeliers"

"lady and the tramp"

"when hairy met sally" (baby tomatoes)

"bright"

"baby blossoms"

"happy crowd"

"loveliest can opener ever / those 3 teeth surely come in handy"

Really nice work in "color drops" and "bon appetit."I think the contrast could be improved in both of them though; darker shadows/mid-tones ("color drops") and brighter highlights ("bon appetit"). The color contrast is excellent, but I think the tonal contrast could be better.

How close were you to that bee(?)? I'm afraid to get close because I've never been stung before. I wonder if some extension tubes would help? It'll be just my luck if I'm allergic... =/

thanks for the tips, rose! oh, and the bee is actually a hover fly, so it was totally harmless. this shot was done with some extension tubes, but i found that i prefer my extension lenses - they are way easier to handle...

so here's an update - those are pictures i took before i moved. we had loads of work moving to another city and inbetween internet wasn't working. i'll try and take more pictures soon, in the meantime some "oldies"...

"professional"

"crossroads"

"docking station"

"here's looking at you, kid"

Cool. I like "here's looking at you, kid" The composition is really great and the DOF is spot on. The diagonal line is a tad distracting, minor problem though.

thanks a lot for the input, jerrica! much appreciated!
here's my latest picture - this time it wasn't a hoverfly but a real wasp - it was busy getting off the sugar after it fell into the plum jam, so it didn't mind me getting its picture taken... but i have to admit that it was a bit alarming since i got really, really close to it...

hello again...

well, "not-so-daily-photo" would probably fit better right now, but the last weeks have been absolutely busy with work etc.
but i took some photos during that time and posted them over at my blog - just didn't want to post here while knowing i couldn't respond in other threads or participate in the challenge. anyway, here are some of the shots...

trying to get a grip at textures, small series of 3:

"memory maelstrom"

"flower to the people"

"drippy line"

"monochrome worship"

"complementary colors"

"montagues vs. capulets"

"moth"

"eternal sunrise of the spotless mind"

"trooper"

okay, that's it for now. i have some more and may post it later today or tomorrow, if you like...

though i'd update quickly.

Great macros, love the compositions. Great eye for the small stuff. I loved the pinhole digital. We do paper pinholes in the class I teach. What did you use to make the digital pinhole? I would like to try!

thanks a lot for stopping by, jjod27!
to answer your question: i simply drilled a whole in my camera's body cap, then pierced a needle through a small piece of tetra pack (i think it was an orange juice carton) and taped that inside the cap. this helps getting the hole very small and tidy.

and that's it. shoot away!
make sure to keep us posted when you or your students have tried it!

sooo, here are some recent pics. thought i should add some "real" posts after the forum is once again flooded with spam...

"theatrical"

"red wine"

"wet'n woolen"

"flower to the people II"

"sacred duties"

"calm morning after a big night"

"wall flower"

thanks, jjod!
thought i should keep posting - these forums feel kind of deserted right now. all the spam makes it really hard to see posts of "real" members. so if you have updated your threads, feel free to pm me... we should seriously try to get some more life in here again!

so here are two more shots from me:

"frosty flower"

"you reap what you sew III"

stine, it's wonderful to see someone's still active around here despite all the spam!

I've missed a lot of great updates in your thread. I absolutely love the textures series, fern fan, frosty flowers etc. - your photos are like paintings, they have so much depth, beautiful compositions and colorschemes. Most of them have a very soft feel that I like a lot.

cheers!
