Darkroom printing on homemade paper?

I just picked up a book today called "Mixed Emulsions: Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery by Angela Cartwright"

one of the techniques is printing (in the Darkroom) on different types of paper. one of the paragraphs says "Other papers can be used for printing photographs since different surgace charastistics can produce different textures. Handmade paper, vellum, rag, rice and silk can all be used if you choose to spend time in the darkroom experimenting."

and I just started getting into the process of making my own paper and this was all the information listed in the book so I'm curious if anyone has done this or has any idea how it would be done to print a bw image in the darkroom onto paper i made myself??

Any ideas or anywhere you think i should check out for info would be great!

Hey! We did this for a project in my Alternative Photo 2 course. I printed on handmade Ceramic pieces. Some other people in my class printed on: seashells, paper bags, metal, mirrors and random papers.

I'll be back at school in 2 days, so I can give you more information then if you want (all of my notes are in a box there). However, for starters you can research brush-on emulsions. Printing on custom stuff requires learning how to do this.

i can't find any info around the net about brush-on emulsions. i googled it, check on flickr to see if there was any posts or something and i cant find it?

awesome! i'm excited, i'll definatly try to find that book and read those links you sent.

i can do this in a darkroom that just does bw, i don't need any fancy chemicals besides the brush on emulsion on the paper right? we have a darkroom at my highschool, its just regular bw.

Yeah, nothing too fancy, but depending on what you print on, you may need a certain fixer. I'll have a definite answer this week-end. :)
