I am new to this forum so I thought I would post an Image I made in 1973 using Kodak Recording Film ASA 3200 and solarized the print. All critques welcome. Since I am new please excuse my blunders as I learn this forum

hey there,

not a big fan of solarisation personally, though messed about with it in the darkroom before

the first one I don't think the effect works (though thats my personal taste) obvisouly there is a lot of grain but thats due to the film speed

the second one works better due to the silhouette style of the shot, also all the tree branches are really good for getting the white mackey lines that result from solarisation

River Studies

Here is a Photoshop print of a negative from Tri-X aged for 12 years and developed in AGFA Rodinal 1:100 for effect and is a virtual print in Photoshop it does not exist on paper but only on film. It was exposed in 1996 and developed a few days ago. People has been killed while crossing the James River on this Trestle by jumping into the river when a train came upon them and they could not escape the train and were forced to jump into the river below.

This is a shot that looks like an etching done with an atomizer this is Panatomic-X developed in Rodinal 1:100 and the film was aged for 20 years and exposure through a red filter and print with Photoshop expoused and developed on Sunday film purchased in 1988 in 100 foot roll and hand loaded my self.

Here is another shot from my river studies shot with my old stock Tri-X with an orange filter developed with Rodinal 1:100 and extended development time by 25%. It is a shot of the old railroad crossing post over the James River part of the James River and Kanawha Canal built circa 1840 the canal was the rail line came in later. The canal was built before the railroad was used for transportation and it connected the Ohio with the Atlantic but was never completed because the rails came into use before it was finished. The structure is on the left with stonewall and steel and wood and concrete before it meets the river in the background the gray misty area is the opposite bank of the James and the structure is on Percivil's Island.

Here is a shot I took today it is a James River and Kanawha canal bridge that runs along the bank of the James River and has been filled in over the years built about 1840 this shot was with my digital Olympus with a red filter and high contrast to give it more flavor. I also shot some of my 20 year old Tri-X but I haven't developed it yet.

Here is a shot I took Sunday it is a James River and Kanawha canal bridge that runs along the bank of the James River and has been filled in over the years built about 1840 it is reported to be the oldest canal in America and was started by George Washington in 1785. This was shot with some of my 20 year old Tri-X film developed in Agfa Rodinal 1:20 plus 25% increase in development time and with my Pentax wide angle lens with red filter and printed with Photoshop watercolor filter. I like to add seasoning my photos.

Covered Bridge

Here is a Photoshop print of a negative from Tri-X aged for 12 years and developed in AGFA Rodinal 1:100 for effect and is a virtual print in Photoshop it does not exist on paper but only on film. It was exposed in 1996 and developed a few days ago. This is an old covered bridge in Campbell County VA and it crosses a creek I think Hat Creek and it was for auto traffic and has since been washed away from flooding and decay. I added a watercolor filter in Photoshop.

Here is from 1975 an etching from a photo I shot using recording film and a red filter of a dandelion and a spider shot into the sun. This is a photo etching on a zinc plate with oil based ink press onto wet etching paper. It is not a photo but an etching using a photographic process.

Kinda like the angle of the last one. Just wish the contrast was better.

The color image looks better. It is a dark image due to the nature of the military so I thought that dark would be good also it was taken in 1963 that image is pretty dramatic for 1963 have you seen any images from 1963 this one is way different for that time. It is the best I could do and still have any details in the image. Thank you for your critique I don't get many views on this forum so thank you for your visit. As I recall I was busy at the time this shot was taken.

Thank you for your critique I don't get many views on this forum so thank you for your visit. I have done some checking and found out that Solarization has been done for over 120 years it seems that’s a long time.

Here are a couple of shots of the canal and how it has digressed over the decades you can see the capstones and the stone wall of the decayed James River and Kanawha canal. It was taken with my Olympus digital and filtered with Photoshop.

Here is the whole shot of this section of the James River and Kanawha Canal notice how the stone wall a portion of still exist and how it was discarded when the sewer line and the railroad bridge came through. This was not an easy section of the James River I had to climb down the bank of about 30 feet and then I had to go up stream about 30 yards over very difficult terrain I had a hard time keeping my balance due the debris and water and mud. I think the Canal ought to be in better shape considering the history of it. The tourists due to the difficulty of reaching the site do not visit this stretch of the river. There are 2 stone walls of the canal the second in back still has it's capstone on top of the wall so that is 3 cap stones visible here. I think there was a third wall that has fell and it had the first cap stone visible here. I think one time a bridge crossed the canal here so the stonewalls were to support the bridge because Griffin Pipe a foundry is on the opposite bank. This shot was with my Pentax Plus film camera it has an electronic shutter. This image was shot with my 20 year old Tri-X stock developed in AGFA Rodinal 1:20 with 25% increase in development time and scanned and then some burning in and dodging with Photoshop.
