View Full Version : Karwendel
Some impressions from sunny, but cold winter days in the mountains close to where I live. They're called Karwendel.

These are animals, but they sort of belong to that kind of landscape -chamoises, so I chose to put them into this thread.
They're pretty shy, I was quite lucky to meet a group of them one day I returned home in the evening - unfortunatley the light wasn't very good any more.

Austria or Germany?
I quite like #2, I would say more, but I'm very short on time.
Oh, and chamois, yay!

nice pics, you did well to keep the sky nice and blue, did you use any filters?
Thank you for your replies!
Rhynome - it's Austria, the "Martinswand" area - it's a great area for climbing, lots of rocks and great climate even in winter.
Grumbledook - no, I didn't use a filter for these. In winter that's not necessary here - the sky is crystal clear and in the mountains the blue is always quite intense.
I did try the #1 tree with a pol-filter, but I haven't downloaded the most recet pics on my computer yet.
Here are two more from the same place...

I had problems with save for web with this one - the colors aren't quite the same... I think I have to practice saving for the internet a bit more.

That last one is really nice. Very nice tonalities in it and a great composition as well.
I think the first batch would benefit a lot from playing around with your compositions more.

I agree with purple rose. The shots have great material, but are a little weak on the composure side.

The most interesting on my opinion is #2. A good potential. It could be fun to operate a post-treatment on it :D
Thanks everyone - you're right on the composition. And - I have too many similar compositions of the same kind of material going on here. This is definatley not finally finished, but scrapbook material :)
I think I'll let this thread die and come up with something new, once I have a better selected series :)

nice pictures! I especially like the chamoises - you came pretty close, didn't you? - and the last picture of the valley... it reminds me so much of my teenager years. I used to go hiking in the Tyrolean Karwendel area a lot. Just yesterday I came home from a short trip to Innsbruck, my home town.
where exactly were you when you took these photos?
Yes, I have never come so close before! Unfortunatley I only had my 18-70 mm lens with me that day.
I was on the way to the Kaiser Max Grotte - the "normal" way from Zirl, where you first walk next to the stone pit, then through the forest to the grot. I wanted to make a series from that area, but unfortunatley they have detonations in the stonepit every day now and you can't walk on this path :(.
I'll go climbing further on the right part of the Martinswand, though, when the weather allows it again :) Maybe there are some nice areas, too.
Funny to meet someone else here, who is from Innsbruck! When you're back in town again and have time and feel up for a little hiking-photo-trip, let me know :)

so you even go climbing with your camera? aren't you afraid to lose or break it? I always have that fear which is why I don't take it along when I go horse-riding, although the photos might be cool because of the different perspective..
yeah, that's cool to meet someone from one's hometown here! I didn't expect it. about the hiking-photo-trip: that's a great idea, but I have to say I'm not really fit at the moment. but maybe a walk in the woods with cameras ready? ;)
I'm not sure when I'm going to be in Innsbruck next, maybe Easter, maybe mother's day, maybe in summer... If you're in Linz or Vienna sometime, tell me, so maybe we could meet up? I'm Marlene btw :)
