Hey guys... I'm just starting out and have yet to do any paid work. I never intended to actually but since having photographed a few friends children it seems that work may be coming my way.(and I need the money cos I'm dead broke!)
So in a very generalised nutshell, my question is.. what the hell do I charge??.
Most of the time(I'm guessing its the same for alot of others) is taken up post processing where all sorts of tweakage can come into play.

My general idea: go to persons house, take spontanious shots of kid/s over hour or two then tweak a dozen or so of the best, as I see fit, then bang them, plus the rest of shots onto a CD, send it out and then game over.

I really know nothing about how it works(have been to a bunch of nz photographers sites but have yet to find anyone who does what I'm intending to do.. most of their work is 'in house')

Ok heres a few of my shots...

(When 'managing attachments' and trying to seperate the photos they then become red x's.. so I've had to leave as is)

Nonono... Please don't do that. Leave the children alone!

haha, i was thinking the same exact thing.

i'd say charge a flat rate, then charge a little more per hour. like $30 + $10/hr

i dont know how much to charge (those are just guesses)but thats how i think you should set it up.

You just gave away all of your potential recurring income from that client.

For this type of client I charge X dollars per shooting hour, for each shooting hour booked the client is required to purchase X dollar amount of products - whether it be prints, books, slideshow disc, or what have you. Telling you the numbers that I charge is useless to you because of the very different markets.
