right how can i get it so this bloody kodak camera to focus on my finger and blur out the background (I don't kno wot it's called) i've tried flower mode but that fails...the only thing that works is that if i zoom in and then zoom back out, it does wot i want and focuses on my finger really nicely for a split second...and then it blurs my finger again and focuses on the background, and theres no obvious way to do it. please help :(

ps. I'm usin a kodak z1275 if that means anything, and it has 5x optical zoom?

well ...read the manual and see the maximum distance your camera can focus ... if you are to close to the lenses it wont expose at all

but if your camera has super macro mode, try it with that.

i think what your trying to do is get a shallow depth of field, which is usually obtained with a large aperture setting, if you can manually set the aperture of your camera then set it as wide as possible (ironically this is the smallest number possible) usually 1.4 or 2.8 and this will give you a shallow depth of field, blurring your background.

also the greater the distance between your finger and the background will aid this too

wow thanks for the help guys, yer i've pretty much worked it out, went on the site, realised i ad to hold it back since it doesn't focus as close as i fort it did ;P . sorry took so long to reply just didn't notice, har ;P i've taken a few pics now which i mite post soon for crits and so on,
