I took a trip to Japan with a little Nikon coolpix camera, not the best camera but very small and easy to carry when walking all day every day. Not sure if this is the right forum, they are kind of a mix, but they are mostly landscape.

The places we visited, and hence are pictured at various points here are Tokyo, Takayama, Kanazawa, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyoto. Enjoy, I'd love to know which are your faves.

Takayama

Osaka DenDenTown - The big electronics district there similar to Akihabara in Tokyo. Gundams are big there, hehe.

A rickshaw operator along the Philosopher's walk in Kyoto. He had cool boots on.

Among the only graffiti I saw in Japan, maybe I didn't look hard enough...

On the Philiosopher's walk in Kyoto. I think this was a little temple or something.

More cool roof

Gotta love that architecture, and the green moss everywhere was a beautiful counter to it.

On top of the aqueduct

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob13.jpg
A graveyard on a mountainside in Takayama, it was halfway into this beautiful forest. One of the most somber, spiritual places I've ever seen.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob14.jpg
Hey aqueduct.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob15.jpg
Drainage is good in Japan, cause of all the snow and stuff.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob16.jpg
The colours! So beautiful. I think this was near the aqueduct, not sure.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob17.jpg
At a market in Kanazawa that me and my brother explored. Such beautiful food!

Octopus anyone?

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob19.jpg
This looks so post apocalyptic. There were loads of awesome little houses like this around, sort of a blend of traditional and run down new stuff.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob20.jpg
The Japanese are seriously big on temples...

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob21.jpg
I'd only ever seen those trees in sumi-e paintings before. Crazy seeing them everywhere, like a living work of art.

Gorgeous little river running through Takayama.

Road running along the river. My brother bought like 2 little kebabs for $20 there hehe. Must've been good meat!

The famous bullet train! The shinkansen. There are actually loads of bullet trains, here I was thinking there was like one hehe. We spent alot of quality time on them.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob28.jpg
Not sure where but this is on one of Japans incredibly efficient public transport trains at peak hour.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob29.jpg
Good luck remembering where this was...probably Kanazawa.

This guy was having a snooze with his big cart full of cardboard.

edit: 31 is a double, oops.

The ubiquitous Japanese vending machines. No, we didn't find any panty ones.

http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/mob33.jpg
For all the nerds out there...Japanese retro game stores were common around Akihabara in Tokyo and Denden Town in Osaka. This one's in Tokyo.

Akihabara, Tokyo. Electronics and games galore!

Little scene out the window of a taxi.

Toy vending machines are almost as common as drink ones.

I love that bullet train shot, and it's always fascinating to see another country, and I wasn't really expecting to see an Aqueduct like that in this photo set, Under the Aqueduct is great; I also like the architecture photos, the ones of the traditional houses.

Though sorry to say that the skew of some of these photos throws me off a bit, I like things to be in order, I love grids and lines and graphs, oh it's beautiful! I have CDO, you see, it's like OCD, but it's in alphabetical order like it should be so sorry].

How did the taxi-tour go?

looks like you had a great time, not bad shots for a compact

some great buildings, might have to visit my friend who moved out there

I have to agree with the point on the crazy angles on a couple of them, wasn't a drinking holiday was it ;]

Thanks guys, I did go a bit crazy with some angles, you gotta experiment to see what doesn't work I guess :p

Rather than hotlink more photos here i've uploaded a photo album HERE (http://www.flamingpaper.com/art/2008/photos/album1/index.html) of about 120 more photos. Enjoi!

Shrine at Miyajima

Give me a while to get captions in there, I wrote them all then accidently deleted them. I need a beer or 2 before I try again, sigh.

I like that last one, though would have been better if you moved to your left and got that hanging branch to the side of the frame (if you could have moved left that is ;] )

What is that thing in the water for anyway, or did you just take a pic of it cause it looked nice?

Hey I went to Miyajima in 7th grade! I met the US Prime Minister or someone important like that there haha. Did you see the little deer?
You know why you didn't see a lot of graffiti? You didn't go to Shibuya when you were in Tokyo. You missed out bud! Best place in Japan. By far.

You coerce me to spend all my little sachet of coins for a flight ticket to Japan!!! I have to grab my >Musashi< novel by Eiji Ioshikawa to calm that lust down. One day you will see me in Kansai IA in Osaka!!!!!!

Hello !
What a great trip !
I think that you could treat a little your pictures. They seem sad, not enough colors and contrasts.
I think the fishes picture is the best one.
