If you check this photo you will see some effects on the colors (especially skin tones) and the values (very contrasted). I notice this effect to ve very widely used now and very 'trendy' and I was wondering if anybody knew how it is achieved?

Thanks!

I don't think it's that easy... It's not just a matter of saturation.

Looks like a combination of desaturating, some blue toning and layer masks.

Sometimes, cross-processing in Photoshop will give you some interesting colors. After that, you can adjust the opacity of the new colors or have them visible only in certain areas.

Although, super contrasty photos are easily achieved with proper lighting, camera settings and some Photoshop.

I am only interested in creating this effect in post (Photoshop).

1. Levels Edit or Curves Edit for contrast on an adjustment layer

2. Partially Desaturate, you still want some hints and tones of the real color.

3. Image > Adjustments > Variations to add blue tone to shadows and mid tones.

4. Black/White gradient map on an adjustment layer, soft light 35% opacity.

5. Slight black vignette

6. Minor dodging in the eyes and minor skin edits (added more yellow to tone and blurred a bit).

I did a very quick edit of a random stock photo. I attached the before and after below. Would have preferred to have similar looking model. Hopefully it's close enough for comparison.
