Flow and The Wave are both fantastic, and would look great in my living room. I love the colors, so often color gets removed from photos and it's nice to see such vibrant colors without them being over saturated. Absolutely love it!

As the others said, Flow is great, something "magical" going on or something. Is it just a clear glass marble? Makes me think of a crystal ball.

Is the first shot the same kinda thing going on? Trying to fathom what is in the picture. Another plant/leaf using a fast aperture focused on the marble?

Thanx guys.

Keepsake, Flow and The Wave are all photos of water drops on my Kale plant.

wow I can see that now you said that from the refraction through the water

even more impressed with them now

Welcome to my studio! :p I labeled everything that's important, the only thing I left out is the flashlight. I like to have some macros well lit to achieve a certain look. So, my three light sources are a lamp, sunlight and a flashlight. My white balance is set to Incandescent to get rid of yellow light cast.

The three Kale leaf macro shots were very impromptu. I would water my plants and these perfect beads/drops of water would form at the base of the stalks or in the middle of some of the fallen leaves.

Take your picture.

Rotate/flip/crop

and enjoy.

Now I'm trying to work on getting some to form on the green leaves of the plant. You can only do so many before they start looking the same.

poison is great, nice composition and DOF and the colours create a really threatening mood, it almost looks like snake skin, but i find the lack of focus on the rear two leaves distracting.

aw, those are gorgeous! "osmosis" hat beautiful contrast, but the crop is a little too tight for my taste. "silence" has gorgeous colors and a very neat composition - like the use of negative space here. and the DoF is simply lovely. did you try luminosity sharpening the image? i think it would bring out slightly more detail and would make it really "pop".
as always: great shots, jerrica!

how did you make them?

purplerose

Thanx, they were caused by the air pump in one of my fish tank's.

carolupus
05-08-2008, 12:21 PM
oh cool, I didn't know you had fish tanks. which fish?
and how did you get the colours? my tank is mainly yellow because of the root in it and the turtles' pee...

purplerose
05-08-2008, 12:52 PM
I have two Betta Fish; a male (Crowntail) and a female. :)

"Surreal" was done with my white balance set for Cool white fluorescent and I used a flash. For "Osmosis" I used a Custom White Balance and tweaked the colors a bit in PS; not too much though, just took away some of the yellow. In "Silence" I used the same custom white balance, but this time I used a flash, no color tweaks. Everything was taken in Tungsten lighting. Hope that helps. :)

carolupus
05-08-2008, 03:44 PM
yep, that definitely helps! thanks for all the info!
those fish are really cool..unfortunately I can't have any fancy ones like that because of the turtles... I'm thinking about buying a second tank though.

Innocence and Star Grid are some of the finest macro's I've ever seen. I love the water droplets in Innocence because one can almost see entire landscapes in each of them... which is awesome.

Of your newest batch, great stuff as well.

Remous is epic and can be added to the previous list of two. The curves and attention to focus work really well. I would hang this on my wall without a doubt.

Desire is great aswell, it lookes very 3dish! How did you light it?

For Desire I had two light sources. One was a regular bathroom light to the camera's top left and the other was a flash (Sunpak 144D) that came with my analog camera (it's my new best friend :D ).

I love Desires, exspecially the first one. So simple regarding the color scheme and the object, but the composition, the values and the depth make it really intriguing.

I also like eternal wonder a lot, beautiful texture and colors - I'm wondering what the obeject you photographed here, is. A corroded surface maybe?

Keep up the good work! :)

@Jabo: Interesting you should bring up still-lifes. I haven't done many formal still-life compositions. In my Photo 2 course we have to do still-life compositions, most have been still-life close-ups. Hopefully I'll have some decent images before the end of this month.

Man I have not been around here much latley. but I have to say your work only gets better. I love the film B/W, but with film you lose the ability to do your magic. But I guess I like B/W s little more grain and some more contrast like in some sepia photos you did earlier or in another post. You inspire me to take my camera out more and quit drawing in PS for a while. Hope all is well keep up the great work your pieces are truly amazing.

Thanks. Agree on my limitations with film. Working on breaking those limitations though. ;)
