im new. very first post.

First and foremost i would like to say i greatly admire everyone on this site.

hey. Im Jon, you can call me that or Mayday. im from Columbus Ohio. im 19 and im a freshman in college. i got my first ever camera for Christmas and ive been takin pictures. Heres some of my beautiful closeups.

The first one is really nice and candid. It has great tones as well. My only crits for it would be to crop off some of the right side to get rid of the light triangle in the top-right corner and to crop a bit off the bottom to get rid of the black shape in the background.

You're off to a great start, keep shooting. :)

thanks. i thought about croping out the random black shape lol. the triangle in the top corner i hadnt considered. very good suggestion.

i dont have the balls lol. and shes a hell of a catch. just as beautiful personality wise as she is in her likeness. both of the pictures mean alot to me.

i had a question. do you think the subjects are to centered? i was looking at them with someone who was a photography student and she loved them but she said that to many of them were to centered, and that i should play around with different focal points. which is why the last photo is a portrait of someone on the left side of the photo. i was told by someone else that portraits are like that alot of times (centered). so i dont know what to think =(. help!

I think it all depends on preference, but you deffinitely should experience with different focal points. It opens up a whole new world :]

Personlly I'm not big on centered pictures, I like the "rule of thirds"

Yeah, it varies a lot. Some photos beg to be centered, while others look alright centered but could look better with a different composition.

Morine seems to have a quirky personality, so those photos would probably look better uncentered.

Ahhh, the old 'too good for me' argument. The only people who are too good for you are the people who you say are, otherwise go for it mate. If shw's willing to let you take photos that's a good start.

Yes, I do. #2 is great, but would be better if it was further out and she was more to the right. I'll be honest, these are a good start but not really ready for the 'finally finished' section. Get yourself a scrapbook, track your progress there, and most importantly SHOOT HEAPS!!! I'm sure it won't be long until you're making good enough images for the FF section.
