So, its on... it was supposed to be a "thunderdome" between me and ~Faust~ but with the new setups here at CA I guess it goes in the Challenge Arena category instead!
The Lone Mech gunman
May 2:nd ( That is two weeks from now! )
We will be using this thread for posting our finals in, and then the judge : Darktwin will judge which is the best entry.
more details to come: Now get drawing faust
Oh, I see, may 2nd, huh? Well, Dile will crush me. That's the purpose of this. Darktwin is just there to confirm I didn't pussy out and posted some shitty half-assed shit hehe.
Got my piece in. Are you?
Oh well, just teasing you, you know?

Haha cmon buddy, crowd is waiting!
C'mon Dile! Before Faust wins by default!
Hey faust and darktwin, is it ok if i just post my picture in this thread ? I have some problems ( well it seems to be a common problem with msn ) with delivering messages.. If I haven't send you (darktwin) the picture this morning ( 7 hours) I'll just post it here
Sorry for making such a huge deal out of this thing =)
I don't mind. You can send Darktwin a PM with a lind to your picture, though.
You have just gained several levels ...
I know how shitty it feels if you are over a deadline. But I guess that's part of the artistic process and a skill mandatory for professional artists.
I like your pic a lot, though.
+ : Your whole concept just SCREAMS "lone mech gunman", a title, I couldn't wrao my mind around. I guess it induced some western-stuff. Your perspective is also sufficient to create the impression of space but your background isn't taking any focus away from the character. Plus, the hat is cool!
- : Your colours are very muddy. I think you should try to use some saturated colours next time (A thing I sometimes do is look at images inducing the mood I want to communicate and analysing their palettes till it makes click). Also, your brushstrokes seem a bit uncontrolled (Not that I'm the one to judge that, HAHA, oh well...) I guess the strokes come with time, but concentrating on this spot makes the progress faster.
The materials are not coming through. I can not tell what the gunner is made of. I think it is some kind of metal since the form is communicating it, but I see not reflektions or shadows that are metal-like. You should study more reflektions and surfaces and how they behave in certain light-situations. An expection would be his right foot, which has a nice reflektion going on, but unfortunately there is no lightsource that should produce this reflektion, what leads me to the next point: light
Right now, your character is sitting in some kind of cave with an unidentifiable lightsource coming from the far above. For natural light it is far to cold and for artificial light I see no reason. You should communicate at least that I think.
The far right part of your picture is undefinable speaking I can't see what's going on and the visual qeues (Fuck ENGLISH ; AAAAAAAAAAAAAAG) you are giving are more counterproductive so that I am obligued to completely ignore that part. Resulting in me ignoring a part of the character, too, since its left leg is in this part of the picture.
Oh well, that should do it for now, here you can crit my piece of crap (I only had to days to work before the deadline, so YOU had a very realistic chance, haha)
I think, you win, because you just have this concept title nailed down perfectly.
Well, let's do that some time again without slacking and no tech, I am a fucking tech-nooooooooob.
Great work guys. : )
Dile: Faust said it already, you perfectly nailed down the concept.
Your colors need a little bit more contrast though, especially for a metal/mech theme.
Faust: Can't see any guns on your gunman.
Anyway, I LOVE that reflection on his visor.
Really Craig Mullins like.
