All crits and suggestions are welcome !
These are the main fields I'd like to cover as a wannabe concept designer:
Enviroments (Interiors/Exteriors) (En)
Transportation (Vehicles/Infrastructure) (Tr)
So this 4 tone - Station (1h) would fall into (EnTrS)
hey these drawings are really nice... but I think that if you want to be a wannable concept designer, you have to draw a little bit more... Buy some books and do nothing else than drawing...
Cool start! And yep, buy some books...
waiting for the rest...
Looks good! Keep 'em coming!
Another one from the IRC (1h) Thunderdome.
I'll do a dosen more next week and after selecting 3-4 sketches I'll try to refine them as an exercise in rendering (values, color, texture).
- Merman (awating death) - thx to Stark and Davi
looks great (me really like the shark thingy),
there is someting about the last one though, the design is good,
but there is something that I cant put my finger on that (no offence)
makes them look more like dancing than struggeling to kill the other.
try making the wolf look more fierce (show some teeth and claws).
For the last one: what ChillPill said, show some angry white eyes from the man and the wolf and maybe teeth to add more expression/emotion to the picture. Overall, great work! I really like the first two, EnTrS thingies...
Daroy , ChillPill many thx for your comments. I'll do a few more of these and I'll flesh them out in more detail. Your suggestions will be incorporated.
Steampunk Frankenstein (the monster, not the doc of course )
Pretty good Addiso. Now...MORE
Your character drawings seem a little cramped / un-polished. Maybe you need to work on a larger scale?
Also: how much time are you spending on each of these?
sketchbook...a kitten dies every time you don't comment
“When forced to work within a strict framework,
the imagination is taxed to its utmost – and will
produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom,
the work is likely to sprawl.”
- TS Eliot
your Rock n Roll Genie is simply excellent!
the lines/pose really flow well, and has lots of character try to do the same in your other TD pieces, as it seems like the focus in most of them is more on colors and lighting rather than character design, and because of that, they overall look abit messy. however your Steampunk Frankenstein is really well done
you have a good combination of colors in your latest Zombie Magician piece, but the overall anatomy, shape and pose needs more definition. perhaps do more photo-studies or life-drawing, to study how light falls on shapes/objects for better definition
keep posting, and i look forward to seeing you at the daily IRC TDs!
I agree with everything deadred has said. I think you should work on making your work less dark and somewhere in between. Great IRC TD stuff though, I'll have to find the guy who runs thoughs and thank him! But yeah, keep at it and I'll see ya in IRC!
hey really nice... now you've got it going... keep posting...
Hey, i really like how you draw the figure, nice loose gestures going on. I'm a sucker for that ^^
Like i wrote, i really like the enviros.
Some traditional drawings would be nice to see. Keep it up!
experiments are important in learning.
start pumping out some serious concepts. The IRC thunderdomes are nice, but they are only 1 hour worth of work. Get some serious time invested and do lots of thumbnails of a subject [creatures/environments/vehicles] and focus on interesting shapes. then pick 5 and flesh them out a bit, then take one and do a final render.
it never hurts to hit two birds with one stone, so when you flesh out your interesting designs, start thinking about edges and value. I'd start with just doing some greyscale stuff. Something I've found is that behind good colors are good values first and foremost.
Something to help with this, could be some greyscale studies of masters or some porn you find on the net.[yaaay porn] Both will work well, but if you do a master study, it will also help you learn about composition, as well as value and edges. I learned a TON from my master studies, not only edges, value, contrast..but also about observation and workflow.
check out the peer project, lots of great 'assignments' http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76955
and prom's art tutorial:
definitely check out the section on saturation, I think it will help you a lot.
lets get srs
Diggin' it. Don't leave me hanging at 90% kid, I want all of it!
Of course I'll be right back at ya when my site goes online. Soon...
You have some fun drawings here. If you haven't seen it already, you may be interested in the "games industry" link in my sig. Cheers!
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.
