I decided it's probably time for an updated manifesto...

I want to learn. Learn how to paint. Learn how to draw. Learn how to master my own will. Here are my efforts.

hey man so you finally made your second SB...congrats!

nice start, i forgot to to praise you about ur teen challenge piece in the thread but I'll just do it here

i really like the colours in that piece, just one minor issue that it seems her lower legs are sorta short (maybe move the knees higher up)

anyways keep up the great stuff, ill just bug u on AIM if u dont

paperX Haha, finally is right, yeah.
Hey man, thanks for the critique. I totally didn't see that in my pencil sketch, and it just became really obvious when I shaded. I think having her torso so dark in contrast with her legs doesn't help it either. It kind of makes it obvious they're too short. I feel lame having anatomy problems on a finished work like this. Haha...well..next time.

Here's the more I promised earlier.
Here you'll see my teen challenge lineart..which I kind of like more in some parts than the finished work.
Then some concepts for the teen challenge.
Then a half finished painty doodle.
Then a CHoW that I never did anything with.
Then a portraity drawing of an elf, which I did after I was inspired by watching an Iain McCaig drawing dvd...wow.
And then another half finished painty doodle. With underwear.

Wow you've done a lot. Great stuff. I really like your characters designs. I'm with paperX...you've developed your character through alot of concepts. I usually dont even do thumbnails.

Anyway the short lower leg thing seems to be a recurring problem especially with the markered sketch.

I can't wait to oC with you too

Just wanted to let you know that your tc piece looks great. You seem to have thought it out quite well looking at the process stuff you posted. Nice work, I hope to see more from you.

I was gonna mention the knees on your TC piece, but PaperX beat me to the punch by about 20 hours. But another thing I noticed (minor, by comparison) is the that the face seems to be lit more from the top than the top-right, like the neck (which you lit awesome-ly). Also, it seems a lot of your TC concepts have the same "gravi-knee" (just made that up ) issue as your final painting. Your underpants sketch seems to have much, much less of that problem, but maybe I'm just being picky because I've got it on my brain.

paperX Dude, I loved your thumbnails! The oc will be good times.
mc2mc2 Yup. I'll definitely watch the knees from now on. Can't wait to oc some!
Q-Caddlewick There was a lot of thinking going on...I still think I could've taken the design further, but I'm fairly pleased as is.
chumble spuzz Knees! And you know, I can totally see that in a lot of my work. Looks like I'll be doing some Bridgman leg studies. Thanks for the critique, man. Nothing wrong with a friendly reminder.
Envisor I wouldn't consider myself really a fantasy artist, but I do love drawing elves.
bunny You like them? Thanks, I appreciate the support!
zao75231 Thanks! I intend on doing just that.

Just pencils for today. A sketchbook page, and a banana study for drawing II. Maybe more a little later if I finish anything!

Here's my update for the day, just a single page out of mysketchbook...not even the full page. Lame, I know. But I was practicing heads and faces and stuff...yeah.

themissinglink: Hey thanks a lot man! I appreciate the feedback, you have any critiques for me though?

paperX: Ooh, and I'm looking forward to the oc's too...just so I can show how not impressive I really am. Seriously man...not the best here. Haha. Lots to learn. It's great you're in China and settled and everything. Hope you like it.

Man I'm jealous of your ability to pelt out quick cute sketches. All my portraits turn out to look like abused people or something. Maybe that says more about me than my sketching ability... anyway!

You're got a nice style goin' on, but I think you could benefit greatly by doing some serious anatomy and facial studies - it'll really solidify the skills you already have. Also, maybe work on your tense of tone - your drawings seem kind of flat. Maybe try out a 4B pencil?

Keep up tha good werk!

Your step by step character design is going to help you a lot. Spitting out lots of (high quality) little sketches is helping you visualize and later creat a more accurate piece. Nice work.

PS - keep an eye on those proportions, they are a pain but they make all the difference

I'm really loving the designs also. It's cool to see the color schemes also.
I'm (madly) in love with the design on the left here: http://conceptart.org/forums/showpos...8&postcount=11
I checked out your previous sketchbook, and it's very good also.
Your digital pieces are quite promising

themissinglink:I definitely understand that. I have trouble deciding where to variate color, and where not to, though.

bunny:Hahahaha, that happens sometimes to me too.I just make sure the ladies look good.
Will do, man. Will do. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion. For most of these little face sketches I use just an HB. For the banana I think I went to a 4B or maybe even 6B...

paperX: Hahaha...I swear that was an accident...really weird. I don't know why it's doing that.
Face studies...I need a book with good face studies....

Q-Caddlewick: Thanks for commenting, man! I think I've had a bad streak for proportions lately.

Odyism: Yeah! Thanks man.
Mmm...I got a little inspiration from how freely Iain McCaig draws...mind boggling.
I'll keep at it. Thanks a bunch!

I really dig the arm studies. I also noticed the depth thing that bunny pointed out, but maybe it has something to do with how a lot of your sketches end up with thicker outlines from drawing over them?

Keep up the good work though! Your studies reminded me that I need to do more of my own

algebra: Thanks for the comment man, I appreciate it. I've always liked my outlines...they keep me comfortable. I should try to stray way from that probably...but I just have so many unnecessary lines, I seem to feel it necessary to refine my drawings with those strong ones.

Here's two sketch pages done today. I noticed that these portraits I've been doing over a distance. I'm not usually right next to the person studying every detail. I think it might be a good practice because I get to ignore those little details and just try to capture the general features, face shape, whatnot. Tell me if you think this is a good thing, or if I should be really trying to get the little details?

Your faces have soo much character. Keep working with those, a good face can make up for a lot in a pinch.

another post.

I appreciate all the feedback you guys give.

I got Painter X, so now you'll see some of that...so much to learn. This was just a quickie. 30 minutes I think. Screwing with the artist's oils. What do you guys use?

Cars and people. Two of the hardest things to draw. Keep doing them they'll help you get better.

Look forward to seeing more painter work. The face is pretty sweet.
