The Junkyard :Warning...Stinky Material!!!
psssst...go to the last pages...this stuff...is...uh...old...newer works posted...
Well, my last sketchbook in 2006 never really got off the ground and I wanted to start off with a clean slate. So, I'll post more stuff in this. Oh, by the way...if I lag behind ever do feel free to leave bashful comments to get me off my lazy butt. This thread hopefully won't be making many pit stops though Okay, first couple of things are digi pieces. Trying a different look. Last edited by Trashy; August 2nd, 2008 at 05:35 PM.. |

I guess style would come up to discussion, but how about using some bigger brushes for blocking out shapes?
I like your hard-thin brushes in most of your uploaded works, but I can't say it's working every time. take care .peace

Kitsushika, willism21, Smokey186, MorteM, thanks guys for stopping by.
The bear actually is very freaky in person. I dunno how old it is. It's made out of a very heavy metal though. Okay, some very quick wash figure studies for class. Used references from magazine that you can see above. Still need alot of work...some okay...some bad .Umm...just doing real fast work in in photoshop. Just very random. Okay, two tree studies. Think I'm going to do alot more of these. The last one I blocked in with black at first. I never tried working this way and it was pretty neat. Whooohooo....yay...update! More stuff from college and stuff I did here.
First up, are are some potraits studies. I'm feeling alittle more confidant working on people now. Still as always need alittle tweaking but I'm really liking the results with conte. Weekly activites here. First is the current enviroment of the week. Re-creating Rapunzels Tower. I'm posting the steps for it also. I'm learning that starting everything in black&white helps alot. Second piece is for the current character of the week. First one is the wip. I was playing around with different colors that I didn't really end up using. I used some textures over at mayangs textures and some of my own. What a amazing resource for textures. Thanks Mayang! Check the link here- http://mayang.com/textures/

Okay, time to really update this thread. Well, I'm starting to check out some atanomy books. I also picked up a massive tome of a book on Da Vinci so I'm going to do some studies from his old drawings. The book is absolutely massive though.
Okay, some skull studies first- I found a cool area at my campus couple of weeks back that has these really cool tree's. I'm doing some studies on them lately. Tree's are so cool! I think I need to draw them more. WARNING: OLD STUFF!!! Going through some of my old stuff yesterday and thought maybe you guys would like seeing it.

Hi and thanks for you comment ^^
This is one of the coolest sketchbook around , not in the typical "concept-way" but the style and artwork in general, some of this is stuff I'd like to have on my walls! However, you should really work from reference and from life cause I belive that your observation skills are not up to par with your imaginary drawing skills, just a thought though. Keep at it! ~Dile

Hey Dile,
Thanks man for stopping by. No prob for the comment. Your very talented for your age! You really are right about doing more life studies and from ref. I'm trying hard to force myself to do these more. I know they will help me alot in the long run. Speaking of which, more bones and some muscle studies from ref. I noticed I had a red bottle of ink and had some fun with it. More B&W coming soon though.

Trashy, thanks for stopping by at my Sketchbook and fro you nice comments and good advice, I posted there some advice on perspectives for you, may not be the best way but that's how I think about perspective and looks like it works fine.
Nice sketchbook, I really like your digital painting style, and I don't draw figures, I have but I'm not good, in my plans I will learn, so please don't get offended, I'm sure you had to do really quick watercolor sketches, but I think for what I've seen that the anatomy is off in ome of those paintings, I really liked your old Illustrations, also your tree studies are great (all), nice going with the DaVinci studies, I like the pen shading you are doing a lot, I really liked your environment also. Well, good work, keep posting more!

PeGGO- Thanks man and it's good to see you around here.
robmorfin- Hey robmorfin, thanks a lot for also stopping by. Yeah, anatomy has always been a sore spot for me...I just gotta keep hammering at it basically. Honestly I've just got done reading tons of art book and concluded...none of them are going to truly help me. In order to get better I just need to get out there and draw, draw, draw and practice, practice, practice. I appreciate your thoughts man a lot...never would get offended by ones advice. I'll check that perspective stuff also. mentler- Speaking of anatomy...your like the god of drawing that stuff. I feel honored and happy that you stopped by. I'll keep the work coming from now on sir ...By the way...I gotta run to your sketchbook. I feel like suck a lazy bum for not updating more often here. Dunno...just been trying so many different looks and styles and just...well...experimenting a whole lot...and giving myself some serious headaches in the process. I think maybe I finally found my niche...or more like it found me. Feel a lot more confident in myself lately. So anyway, less babbling and more updating this place....WHOOOP! So first here are some pieces I did at a park. I'm making it a point to walk down just about everyday now in the morning and do studies of the people. I take my dog with me also. Never tried drawing moving people before...it's pretty cool actually. wip and two bot doodles. Very recent digital work

Big update here. I had a pretty major independent project to do in college. It involved me doing a full-size poster illustration for a theater play also at the college. The illustration is based off the the storybook called the "BFG" also known as "The Big Friendly giant". Their really happy with the illustration so I can take a big deep sigh of relief. Originally I wanted a more cartoon look but the staff wanted a more realistic human-like giant.
So here are all the concepts and steps leading to the final illustration. First time I ever did something like this before. Was a real blast!

You have some really nice painting skills developing here! I love the color especially in the orange and green horse digi... If I may offer a piece of advice: Check out Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy. He gives you simple ratios for the relationships between different parts of the body that make proportions easier and are really helpful. I say this because your last painting is beautiful for the most part, but the incorrect proportions of the man make it seem a bit off.
Good stuff! Keep it up. Last edited by grae; July 1st, 2007 at 03:13 PM.. Reason: spellz! |

On the crit side, I agree with Dile...more life/anatomy studies. Your imagination definately needs no help.
On the pro side, I dig the architect's house and the green tree in post #6, very nice color choices, quite pleasing to look at. I wouldn't mind hanging that one in my home. SPOOOOOOOOON!!! |

grae Thanks for you comment man. I've been reading into some Loomis but I'll check Hogarth out as well The giant really does need more work to him. I'm gonna try fixing him up...he is way too stiff right now. Thanks again!
Piranha Clan- I agree with Dile and with you. Thanks for coming by. Gesture drawings, eyes, noses, and value study over at the Spartan Training Camp. Check it out in the community activities section.

Huge smoke cloud,
Got the idea for the piece from a WW2 book. Took some refs from there. Started as a b&w and colored it.
