Fishhead's sketchbook pages

This is my first post so I am new at this. I just started looking at these forums. There is some awesome work that artists are doing. It is so inspiring to look at all of your work. The sketchbook for me has become something I love to do on a daily basis. It is almost therapy! I would love any thoughts or feedback on my work. I'll post some more pages in a few days.
Lots of art love
Jeff

I think I just fell in love with the cat at the top...
Love your work!
Your creatures are fantastic! And I love how you draw fish.
You make a simple creature look fantastic and full of life!
Your perception of eyes is very interesting too.
I really like the frogs riding the sea horses as well.
I need to see more!

You should think about shrinking your pictures next time.
They are a little big.

Nice details, very clean, imaginative, nice style. Two thumbs up my friend. I can visualize you doing famous characatures in magazines. Theres definately work out there for this kind of style if your not doing it already.

Thank you all for the compliments! Yeah I made my first post way to big like a dope. Well I am learning as a posting rookie. I'm make it smaller when I post again.
My day job is a concept artist for a game company. I used to be a freelance illustrator many years ago. Now in my own time I paint and draw on my own stuff. If your interested in seeing more stuff check out my website.

I have some painting step by steps here that show some of my painting techniques.

Hey Jeff, glad yu started posting! I love the green space mermaid, I don't remember that one from your portfolio. I am anti space dolphin on principal though, give them skull faces or something! Love the frog cowboys too, very Miyazaki-ish.

The mermaid with the dolphins in space is an intense masterpiece of creation!!
The colors are amazing.
The eye on that eye creature is phenominal! The eye is completely mesmorizing.
Your work is very inspiring.

The cat at the top is still my favorite.

Thanks Anubis

The cat with the fish is one of my latest drawings. It's called "adoration". The fish are adoring the cat. The big eyed alien is called "bullseye" It describes all of the pets (cats and dogs and fish) that I have every had all sumed up in one painting.
Thanks again.

Hey heres a thought. Do you have any sketches where you show your stages. Like the Dutchman? I am interested in understanding how you approach a drawing.

Thanks for the kind words Born!

Here is some of the basic ideas I use in my work. These are a few screen I use when I have taught art in college and workshops. As I have focused on learning these principles more, drawing and painting has become easier. One of the artist I study is Andrew Loomis. In his "creative Illustration and fiqure drawing for all it's worth" books he goes into detail about these principles. In art school I heard these ideas but never had a mentor show me how to apply them until I met some professional artists and started bugging them to teach me. I hope these ideas can help others on this forum to reach higher in growing as an artist.
Two of the principles(just to cover a few of the principles) I use are line and shape. If you can make your eye move through the drawing it will appear to have more life. If your eye stops or gets pulled too many directions your brain says bad drawing. The shape and silhouette is so important! Man this one opens up some many doors especially shapes within shapes. One exercise that I do to develop my eye to see better shape is to move my pencil around and create interesting shapes on the page. Then I look into it and find something to respond to and pull out the details and develop it. So many wild drawing come out sometimes scary, sometime just wacky and sometimes dynamic. When I was an art director I would have all of my animators render their character as a black silhouette so we could talk about what the shape says to the eye.

This stuff has become a daily thought process everytime I draw. It's the desire to breathe life into a drawing. My journey is on going. I love to learn and continue to grow.
As always...Lots of art love to you.

Color art has a wonderful old school feeling, pencil drawings are clean, precise, and show a very good creativity...
...excellent stuff... dunno why but i've got a feeling i've already seen your work somewhere...have you been featured on maybe an Expose book?

keep sharing
