Wow I had forgotten about this...It's sorta been a while since my last upload. The first three are personal pieces, and the others are a character design/ortho and environment assignment I received while at my internship at N-Space this summer, they were nice enough to let me try some stuff that I'd be able to take with me that wouldn't be under NDA. I feel like there's some scale issues in the fortress one, like you can't tell how far away the mountains are, or how tall the tower actually is.
Very Impressed man! Love your excellent sense of lighting. Hopefully I'll run into you at Revelations! See you there!
hmm, your pencil and your digital work dont really match up. you are still very reserved with your digital work, almost using stylization as an excuse to not shred up the tablet. your oils look like you have a good idea of light and shadow and planes, your pencils are solid and lively, you just need to learn to put that same love into a digital piece.
dont fear the reaper
Grandmassa Mr. Spect- Thanks man
Rabid- Thank you, it's something I've been trying to put more thought into lately...I must've missed ya at the workshop, sorry bout that!
RichKid-Interesting crit, are you saying I should try and polish the digital pieces more?
Since I haven't updated this in a bit, here's a bunch of characters/environments I've been working on for a project-
you need to work more on the poses, try sketching out some poses too before drawing the final char.
anyways,u got some sick sense of style, detail and design, keep it up, great work.
Lotet- Yeah, gestures have always been my weak point. I'll keep that in mind, gonna do more silhouettes next time. Thanks-
Environment I (sorta almost) finished today, I think this is my favorite color palette. It's in the same area as the Forest God piece. My idea for this place is a swampy, gooey unnatural mossy creek. For some reason I think moss and lichen are pretty damn cool, so there's gonna be more of that going on in this.
Mattinian -Thanks man! =)
This goofy creature I imagine to sort of be like a sloth, a slow forest/plains grazer that slowly grows moss and plant life on his back. I think there will be several iterations of him, maybe one with a winter coat. There's several things that still need fixin', like his feet not really connecting to the ground plane, and his shoulder/forearm looking weird.
roidvoid -Wow thanks, I appreciate it!
enthombed-Propotions are something that give me trouble sometimes, I'll keep that in mind
Lord Dubu- Yeah, I love Miyazaki, definitely a huge inspiration for me
Trying to finish up that shaman guy I posted above, I changed the staff around, it seemed too heavy to me, lemme know what you guys think.
What the fuck???This SB is brilliant!!!5 stars!!!!
killer work!... and i find it funny how often people throw out the " check your proportions" crit..... I mean... Characters wouldnt be CHARACTERS if everyone stuck to the same archetypical formula. anyway... SICK eccentric characters and wonderful wispy enviros!!! a fan am i.
great update, i like the shaman pic though the staff looked better in the non-final pic, keep it up.
Nice sketchbook. I really like that oil painting from page 1. The more recent stuff is looking killer. My only critique would be that your works tend to lack a really strong sense of lighting. Punching up your darks and lights should add some drama to your pieces - not that every piece should be that way, I love most of them the way they are. But sometimes that extra drama just puts a piece into a whole new level. Keep it up!
Lovely stuff, lots of things that were really attractive design wise, too many to point out.
I like the old staff better, with the glowy sacks intead of just dripping - it just made more sense and didnt feel TOO heavy to me...funny character.
With the most recent enviornments, the creek and forest spirit, I think you can punch out your colors more! Use them to lead our eye because right now I feel it could have much more impact if a little bit more of that grey overtone went away
The mossy fluffy guy just looks a bit tooo round in a sense - it would be nice if some animals body structure (bison or something?) impacted him a bit further, then we might accept his shoulders/legs a tad more? Just a thought.
This one I would love to see finished from you
The idea of the rocks inside being inhabited seems a little quick and dirty, I wonder if you can stretch that idea further - but its not some attractive shapes and composition...and because of your lighting (make it brighter!) you could add some very rich cool toned shadows in there...I can see it in my head so maybe it will inspire you to do a little more Have a good one
Amazing creature and character design. Your drawings are very athmospheric and a bit moody to me, especially the environments. The forest spirit is a favourite, it's got this slight mystical yet eerie aura to it. Great stuff, I'll check back on you
I really think that your latest work has gotten very good, your creatures looks like nothig else, and your colors are beautifull. Really like this stuff, and because of your latest posts, I think you deserve one more star.
I'm learning alot by looking at this suff, very inspiring
Keep posting, don't take half a years brake
Please take the time to give me some constructive criticism in my Sketchbook
