Title: RECON 2023
This another promotional poster. This is due tomorrow and i'm looking for any last minute tips on how to make it kick more ass... frankly I think it could use the help.
Critiques please! All suggestions will be considered.
What're you trying to accomplish with this? There is nothing being told here. Especially nothing that portrays any sort of recon. With your lettering for Recon 2023, you have great light sources already in the picture, why not use them? The lettering looks like of like you tried to invent new unexplained light sources.
Agree with above, really needs some ships (or part of a ship) in foreground or further in orbitting the planet or something? Good Luck with it
Yes the point of the thing is elusive... i suppose that's intentional but as you guys say it's very flat and not that intruiging. Here's the assignment as it came from the director:
I am looking for two posters. One with a simple concept. A teaser poster in fact. It is for RECON 3.
I need a see of stars, at the bottom half of a planet, a desert planet, as a sun slowly rises behind it.
The title for RECON 3 is RECON 2023: The Gauda Prime Conspiracy
So no ships or anything interesting besides the planet and sun and title.
The client has approved the final render and i'm done with this project now, so i'll post the final version today. Thanks for everybody's help.
Strange he approved it if those were his guidelines. Not seeing a desert planet at all, really. Maybe a planet still forming after the birth of a galaxy, but that's all. To be totally honest, the only place I could really imagine seeing this as a poster would be on the wall of a stoners bedroom with black lights around it. Or if it were sharper, the maybe as one of the default backgrounds to come with windows. One thing that you seem to have neglected with your sun there, is that suns are not solid, and your sun here looks like it's a solid mass with some firey worm things snaking around it. Suns are (to the best of my knowledge) composed of quadrillions of tons of plasma which, although suns generally tend to produce an assload of gravity, are not solid.
there were other notes too. He specifically wanted a green sun, with lots of flares. I based the sun loosely off this image :
And he wanted the desert planet to have that kind of cracked, dry lakebed texture, but it didn't look sinister enough, so i suggested we turn the cracks into lava streams and it looked better.
It does need some ships though. Oh well.
