I hope this is the right forum for this question.
Im currently a junior in high school interested in attending art school after I graduate. I've been trying to teach myself alot lately with a few art books and tutorials but am having trouble.
I would like to enroll in some sort of Art class/workshop in order to improve my skills above what I can learn from teaching myself. My school doesnt really offer anything beyond basic Art which didn't help much. I asked my former art teacher and a few other people about how I could find a class or something but haven't had much luck. I was hoping someone here could point me to a good place to find something like this. I live in Southern California (the inland empire to be specific) I looked into the sketch group or whatever in the Local Artists group board but they meet in Long Beach which is a little far for me to travel.
Any help is appreciated in this matter.
Look into your local community colleges, or places that offer night courses for adults. Look in particular for drawing sessions with nude models – those drawings will really help you get into a good art school. Good luck!
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

One under utilized resource for information on arts groups is probably the neighborhood arts supplies store. You could always go in there and inquire about where someone your age could go learn more.
Of course the local community colleges might have extension programs and maybe the arts groups might have some sessions as well.
During the month of July, Max the Mutt in Toronto offers a four week drawing intensive ..check out our web site, www.maxthemutt.com and call Van Olson toll free at 1-878-486- MUTT for information. By the way, its very inexpensive for the amount of instruction ( 6 hours a day!) you receive.
