Malakai - Glad you appreciate these studies, they are actually rather fun once I realized how important they are. Without the understanding of form in space it's kinda hard to actually know how to draw. Everything else after that is just decorations.
D. - I do need to get a few renders here or there... I don't think its going to be a problem to keep them in the space though, thats all the drawing part.

But understanding how the legs act is more important. The effects of gravity is strong.
The knee is probably one of the more difficult forms to get right... If anyones got Bammes in their library, I'd highly suggest that you take that book and digest it for a good few weeks... especially in the knee region.

These are some very good studies I haven't really got any crits on them. You sometimes make your hips a bit to big, but I geuss that is more something based on personal taste, then that it is an actual error. Maybe try to play a bit with the proportions to see what you think looks best?
nice effort,and thinking,like us analysis in anatomy,its a nice way to think,but just for a bit ,take care not to get so hung up on the geometrical analysis,so that u wont lose ur eye hand sence of freedom in work.

Moftah - Thanks for hitting up my lonely sketchbook, I understand what you're saying about the need for freedom in my lines. I've been mostly trying to understand Form and Function that helps in advancing the power of those lines. This way I can become a better draughtsman. Because without form we end up seeing only in 2 dimentions, I have always loved the works of people like M.C. Esher, who really push the concept of 3D Illusionary works. And for the most part these are just 'skeleton' frames that I'm trying to get to a level of mastery before trying to handle the surface details.

I've also digged out a scanner that might work, this weekend I'll have to give it a test run... pictures with a crappy camera sucks, and can't be edited too well with photoshop...
I think your form studies are very nice and will certainly add depth to your illustrations. I just ordered about yesterday a Gottfried Bammes book named 'The Artist's Guide to Human Anatomy' together with other art books and Art and Fear. I'm full enthousiasm about this book, especially seeing from your Bammes studies.
Whitevillage - yeah Bammes is definately a good mofo to be learning from. I've seen one of his books, although I don't know a lick of german, his illustrations are very potent and full of good tidbits of knowledge... I'd like to see his books translated... I think Mentler took a bit of the knowledge that Bammes departed to us in some of his works but I'd have to give Mentler the credit due for teaching me these studies.
Vibhas - Hi and nice having you in the little sketchgroup army we're trying to build. I'll have to break the news to you though, that's all straight ballpoint pens there dude. No pencils were injured in the makings of these drawings...

Crazy Dude SRD: Yeah, I got the English version now however wich seems inferior then the German one cuz' is much thicker and more complete. At least this one is understandable due it's translation. You see mostly illustrations and studies from his students, still good to look at to get his teaching idea. I will look in to making Bammes studies hopefully soon. That Deep Sea concept is really neat.
WhiteVillage - I've got the german version of 'Wir Zeichnen Den Menchen' on pdf... found it here You might be able to compare and contrast the two... but for the most part the plates themselves are all the information you'll need.
Aifolx - The more crap you can cram into your brain's subconcious the better... But to forget to work on the basics is perhaps the greatist of all damnations.

Still dealing with piss poor time management... the chaos that is made when one moves is massive enough to break the laws of order.

a la bapsi, I think you have to search up mentler's work for that answer
studies are great as usuall! the fun stuff at the end to be honest are not up to the same 'level' as your figurative work. I don't know if that is because of the time you invested, or how focused you were ofcourse but I think it is funny, since a lot of principles that you can apply to a figure you can also apply to such things. If I have to do a wild geuss right now you still struggle quite a lot with 'light', something that is less apparent in your figures but which you see more in your other stuff. So! grab a box and a lamb and make tons of drawings constantly changing the angle you sit at, the distance of the light etc... you'll learn tons
once again, your figures are getting amazing

Tim- Yeah, sorry bout not posting recently... I suck at keeping track of things... One of those flaws that I'm working to undo... The classes are going great, I am getting a lot more out of it through the amount of work I do.
Oh wow... diligence is key! Your studies are definitely paying off... are you finally in school for this stuff? Or are you just pushing out some good studies out of class?
Keep going! These are going to improve you in the long run ten-fold. Don't forget to throw some value studies in there once you are comfortable with anatomy.

Yeah I'm actually taking a small online class with Mentler, an excellent teacher that definately knows his shiitake... yeah I know I haven't been adding any values to my drawings for a while mostly because I've been trying to gain some mastery of my line and form. I'll be getting some more with some tone in soon enough though!

but anyways things look great! I'm quite certain not everything is 100% correct but I'm to dumb to point out the mistakes and leave that job to mentler. (As a side note I should take an example of you and study more)

SRRY GYS NO NoN STuDEEES.... My normal 'puter is dealing with some powersupply issues and it's driving me up a wall... I'm going to be getting it a PS transplant and hopefully after the operation is successful I'll be pushing some new ground with my tablet.
(Just to give ya a hint of the craptatcular machine I'm dealing with...

If I see your biggest top-left cube right you had your hand on 3-point perspective? That one can be tricky, it doesn't look like a proper 3-points perspective tho, but simply more as if the vertical lines aren't placed right. This basicaly because you have a top view from that box, and the side which should be closed to you actually is smaller.
anyways, great studies again, I don't know if I already said this, but watch out that you learn from mentler, not simply copy his style (which can especially be seen with the big hips, small ribcages).

Yeah I've noticed the overly mentler look to em too... I'm trying my best to swing away from it while adhering to the principles that he's trying to instill. I'm mainly try to understand the whole 'Form in Space' illusion, even though most of the drawings are not displaying it, it's more about the mindset.
In thinking for a third direction first and foremost, I can begin to translate objects from reality to the page with more 'realism' to my drawing. I think this is the foundation on which good draftsmanship is build on. Not to mention good painting. Thinking like the sculpter by carving form from light and shadow.
Now that I'm done nerding out... A couple more drawings anyone?
