Thanx to Cloister for the topic idea!!!
I think for this topic i have to stress the species rule again: The creature must be a species and no individual character!!! |

![]() "Sir, this is Major Brickle. I'm in a f-18 fighter plane over the crisis area. It seems our information was right sir. We finally found the thing that caused all the strange accidents in the Bermuda triangle. Actually it's not just one thing, it's probably a whole new species. We've encountered one and are currently attacking it with all we've got. The creature appears larger then we initially expected. I tried hitting it with my rockets, but I think I only pissed it off. It seems this creature is extremely territorial. Ever since we've entered the triangle we are under constant attack from this enormous beast. I fear our carrier is under severe danger. Nuking the creature might be the only option, thought I doubt we can take it down once the creature is under water. I spotted several other of these worm like creatures in this neighborhood. Our scientist onboard the carrier have sent you some info concerning the size of this animal. They based their data on the observations they were able to make during our attack. That thing is unlike anything we've ever seen before. It might not be safe for our aircraft sir. These animals, if one can call those things animals, have an enormous reach. I could only barely pull up to avoid a collision. I don't think the slower bombers will be able to do the same... What do you mean they're allready in the area? Sir! You must be joking, those planes are in danger! We gotta pull back! Pull back! This secret of the Bermuda triangle is too big for us mr. President!" EDIT FINAL:
![]() Description: God created everything. According to our history Adam and Eva were sent to Earth because of their sin. Now, thousands of years later, take a look around. Humans are evolved as they are now. They are everywhere. This time, the new creature who committed a crime in heaven is named " Bermuda". It's a ball like creature with small and broken angelic wings. Without any mercy, this creature is also sent to the Earth we know. When Bermuda was sent on Earth, it was still small. It spend it's days hunting for food like fishes in the ocean. Over time, it's growing bigger and bigger. It starts to eat everything it sees like planes and ships. We humans don't know about it's existence yet, however, we call it's hunting ground " the bermuda triangle" . Just like humans, this creature is evolving. Who knows how the Earth will develops? Fozz usually reminds us of the character rule each week, but in this case, I think he's making a special point. The creature vs, character distinction is the same as species vs. individual. We are encouraged to make our entries the member of a larger species, not one special entity. Additionally, one is expected to veer away from humanoid forms, though that envelope does get pushed once in a while.
I think this week, the mention of the character rule is of special import because the topic might lead one to design a single beast responsible for all the disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle. Like the Loch Ness Monster or the mythical Scylla... individual sea monsters with individual identities. I think the idea here is that there's a group of beasts that take down the ships and planes that cross the triangle.

Cool idea incorporating Bermuda's coat of arms, Michael. I'm thinking of doing something along the lines of the "dancing lights" that Columbus saw. A time traveler or dimension breacher would also be appropriate. I'll have to think about this one for a while. Either that, or skip it and keep learning Photoshop.

Interesting wips so far guys.
EDIT: Image update EDIT2: Updated again ![]() The Pyramidaminds Strange things happen in the region known as the Bermuda Triangle. Storms are frequent, ships get lost. Navigation becomes imposible, compases go mad. The region is a bad omen among navigators, nevertheless, sometimes it is impossible to take a different route and one must go through... Some people who have been through the Triangle report the apparition of strange, massive beings, floating among the dark clouds, when the storms rage. Are they the cause of the supernatural phenoma that happens in these sea regions? Some survivors, the religious ones, claim they are angels. Others say they are aliens, or beings from another dimension. Post-trauma specialists dismiss the existance of these beings as merely hallucinations from fear and stress. However, the sightings of them are more numerous each year. The media has begun coverage on the subject. I may change the image and description.

Once again, inspiration comes in to save my hide. It's always easier when ideas just come to me and I don't have to actually think about them.
![]() Here it is, drawn in about twenty seconds on the back of a piece of paper from a day-to-day calendar on the computer desk. It's a wedge-shaped swimmer/flyer with three tendrils tipped with bioluminescense. It somehow breaches dimensions, causing EMPs that disable electronics and releasing deadly amounts of radiation. ![]() Doing a little research about the Bermuda Triangle, I was kinda disappointed to find out that the ratio of sea and air traffic to accidents and disappearances is no greater than any other area of similar size and traffic. It ruined the mystery for me, a little bit. However, that won't stop me from having fun designing and drawing a creature this week!![]() (I'm starting to memorize the codes for the smilies. I'm such a geek. )

Great picture Brokk! I like the creatures very much, they seem very bermuda triangle-y. Maybe tweak the little ship a bit more, add some shadows. And maybe blur the little creatures in the background and make them a bit more blueish to make them seem farther away.

My WIP.
I'm thinking a mostly crustacean creature. The creature doesn't breath oxygen, but does come to the surface to fill it's hollow body. Instead of swimming, it uses the air it gathers to simply float near the surface. Because of it's size, about the size of a blue whale, the amount of air gathers at times causes whirlpools, which has been the bane of many a passing ship. ![]()

brokk - great image. Has a real 50's horror/sci-fi movie feel! I'd fix the ship though. It doesn't match the completed look of the image.

That's some nice WIP:s! Brokk's pyramida...whatever, are really imaginative. I was also thinking in Supervlieg's direction initially, but realized that the distance to some airplanes is pretty vast... (27 000 feet)
I don't even have a sketch yet, but will hopefully be able to join the fun, and I'm honoured that my topic idea came to use. |

dragon4lunch and Cloister, thanks guys : ) I'll fix the ship and the other corrections.
Xplode, its very good considering its a first attempt. I don't think the composition is working, the creature could dominate the composition more. The face of the creature looks a bit flat. Other than that, not much to crit at the moment, maybe when its more finished. EDIT: Xplode, looking at it more, there are some perspective problems. Its a bit hard to read/interpret right now, but its a cool idea.

I'm new here at CA and this is my first attempt at a COW, but I hope at least some people think it's cool, the winning pieces each week always blow me away at how inventive and well rendered they are, I hope I can get better by participating in a lot of these :)
Here is my WIP so far, sort of an electric eel that's evolved into a leviathan in the depths of the ocean. ![]() |

Jtho: Damn, I'm also making an eel, and it's electric... well, whatever. It's a very different kind of eel... but still, a bit annoying.
(Since mine will be a thousand times cooler than yours, I think you should consider a change of plans...) ![]() |

![]() Gliding Bermudi (my initial concept) The Gliding Bermudi are an gargantuan species with a mouth spanning over two tankers in width. Extremely territorial, these ocean dwelling creatures guard the area around them from anything which may pose a threat. Ships and submarines are commonly mistaken for hostile intruders, and consequently vanish in unexplainable circumstances. Additionaly, their large, sturdy forefins can be spread out as they leap from the ocean, allowing the creature to briefly glide through the sky. Thus, any low-flying aeroplanes are also likely to fall prey to Gliding Bermudi. Made a new entry, something more imaginative... ACTUAL ENTRY Entry before crits: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...erm2-aug06.jpg Updated Final: ![]() Sarlong Sarlongs are creatures capable of creating wormholes within and around their bodies. While both sexes can produce wormholes, cross-dimensional travel is a stressful event and only the male can withstand the pressure. Since their home dimension is fairly desolate, the male of the species are required to hunt in other dimensions. Regularly venturing outside their natural dimension, the males collect raw ore and processed metals for future consumption, transporting them home through internally produced wormholes. When travelling to earth their portals open in the Bermuda Triangle, however, Sarlongs can't survive in our environment for any longer than 40 minutes. This means they have limited time to search for minerals, and can't venture far. Last edited by cognition.sb; August 21st, 2006 at 01:24 AM.. |
