Scary But Harmless
Saturday, 12th August 2006
- for any questions or help go here:
note: The deadline won't be EXACTLY after a week...it can last up to 24 hours more, i am human and have to work also, you know
Post your creature for this week!
hehe, we had "Cute But Deadly" once as a topic and Snarfevs came up with this brilliant idea, making it the opposite, thanx for that....here ya go!!!
And don't mix up scary with ugly!!!
The Lemmy (Lemur Madidus Visio)
The Lemmy is found in the Highlands of ireland. The most remarkable feature of the Lemmy is its manner of self defense. When it is chased by a predator, it will wait for a unexpected moment in the chase, bend over and stick it's hind legs in the air revealing a face-like feature on its underbelly. This menacing "face" on its belly is complemented by its huge tail giving it a look not unsimilar to a somewhat drunken rockstar. On its underbelly the Lemmy evolved two light area's with dark spots on its skin, resembling two wide open eyes.
While in this pose, the Lemmy furiously waves its hind legs and its fake head. This threathening pose, called the "Lemmy face", is most effective in scaring off all chasing predators. For more curious predators the Lemmy has a second detterent. In a final act of indignity the Lemmy slightly lifts its tail and sprays the predator with it's feacies.
The Lemmy is a very curious creature. When one is chased, nearby Lemmies are often seen watching the chase from afar. They seem most amused when the predator is scared by the Lemmy face and moreso when the predator is chased of by a hail of little nuggets of shit. But it must be know, that although the Lemmy may seem scary, it is harmless. It has no real defenses, and once the predators catch on, it will surely mean the end of this akward creature.

or at least something that couldnt let you sleep at night
ah yes....something to do on the flight home from boston.
heheh - i'm still waiting for my COW star!! I'm stunned i won it!
This one is going to be tricky.....i'm thinking the real challenge here is to paint it without anything else to imply that the creature is harmless.....say, if you had it being petted by children, but it looked hideously scary. I think thats a cheeky way around it!!!
hmnmnm - the thinking cap goes on......and.....hey this thing doesnt work!!
oooh, cool, I didn't know you get a cow star for winning! Sweet - there is an extra incentive to participate! Yippi! How do you get the bunny head next to you avatar? Does it mean admistrator? Probably, right? But it already says administrator so it would be somewhat redundant. Then again, the more "schnickschnack" the better!

I guess the bunny is part of the COW star
I can't wait to see what people start posting. I'm thinking puppy with the head of a cthulhu.
Well, I'm thinking about participating in this COW-thing for the first time... and as I'm sketching away and look at my stuff, I sort of think: Is it okay if it's scary enough to give you a heart-attack... and can you call that harmless? Just checking, to be sure...
That "bunny" head is one of the mascots of COW...Jull won the first round of COW (topic: mascot) together with Matt Dixon, so we have Matt's War-Cow (which you can see in every COW-thread) and Jull's COW is used for the winners as the winner-icon...Originally Posted by dragon4lunchoooh, cool, I didn't know you get a cow star for winning! as long as it's harmless it's ok...you know i could get a heart-attack by looking at Michael Jaeckson (haha, built-in insider gag got it? ) but wait...is he harmless though?...you got the point...
If I had a dollar for every time someone thought they were first making up that pun I wouldnt have to look for work as a concept artist.
However, being the butt of one of your jokes makes me feel like I belong, so I accept your humor in the spirit with which it was intended.
Michael J(aecks) Fox
PS, you made me change the avatar. It was all you.

Sounds like a Muppet telling bad jokes to me...
Eh... since I don't see any chance of winning on my first COW anyhow, and since I kind of sadly realized that I don't have time for this competion, I might as well post what I've come up with at this point. Perhaps it will scare someone off the line.
Here goes my entry: (Which I have requested to be disqualified, due to a change in the personal schedule, and a much bette entry within time-frame... see below)

Hey MJ, I love the new avatar. Do you have it in high res? Also, can you moonwalk?
Hee hee. Thanks SV. I dont have it in high res. I found it when doing reference research for a gig. It wasn't what I was looking for of course, but it was a keeper anyway. And following Fozzy's bad pun, it needed to become the avatar, naturally.
I cannot moonwalk. But I have worn moon boots, if that counts.
Yes! I could find an extra day for this undertaking... I hereby disqualify my first entry, because it was too human-like, or boring (and will delete the post if necessary, on request), and now post something a little bit more... let's call it thorough.
I proudly present: THE PLANETARY ORBITER
My first time participating I hope I do well.
Considering doing the thing that scares me most but doesn't harm me.
I'm in too
Let's go !
i'll be gettin' a sketch in this time. gotta keep it to line work/tone since i need to get my arse in gear for round 2 of LMS.
yeah...thanks! lucky lucky.
here's a link to the image as posted in my cgsociety portfolio:
Hey Cloister, your new entry sounds like it still could be very menacing. I mean, what is it doing orbiting our planet, for example. Telepatic abilities? Sounds like it might want to manipulate people. I don't know, if this is really a harmless creature....
I'm working on a creature that is large, thus scary. A blue whale is harmless to humans, but I'd still find it somewhat scary to swim next to one... Anyway, my creature will be sort of like a benevolent dragon...

Sorry for that joke...and please change your avatar to something different, the cheap jokes should be enough you don't need to set visually a relation to MJ...i think it makes things worse
But I like my new avatar and so does Supervlieg. Michael Jackson as the Joker is brilliant!
I think I have to keep it just a little while longer. Sorry, but you brought it up.
If I find a picture of the king of pop with a big red comb and a polka dot scarf, I'll change it.
ok, don't blame me, if someone will use your avatar as an entry then......and sundance, my lawyers are activated going to kick your ass...
Well...an update. Hope I finish by the deadline. Lots of work to finish up...
