Day 1,
Hello, my name is Taylor. I am 16 (when this started), and have recently decided to focus more on my drawing, and painting skills. So I started this sketchbook to hopefully help me improve my skills. My goal for the sketchbook is to do a little sketching, and a little painting every day; and hopefully recieve helpful advice along the way. well...here goes

well, I still need more practice with basic shapes I've decided so today's theme was also still life. Just found some stuff laying around my room, and gathered them up. I still need alot more pactice in blending colors in photoshop with hard edge brushes; but today was good practice.

Keep drawing from life Taylor, nice apple you got there, I think the bottom shadows should be some darker so the apple is less floating around.

Well, today I think I got alot better at blending colors in photoshop. I watched a really helpful tutorial about it, and I think it really help me to understand what I was doing wrong before. Today's theme is also still life taken from things I found around the house. I decided not to try and shade the sketches too much sense I get plenty of shading practice from my paintings. The sketches are meant primarily to tune up my sense of shape. Aslo, I didn't finish the painting today because it got a little too detailed so I'll try to finish it tommorow. I know, I know I said one painting everyday but I figure as long as I get significant work done on a painting each day it'll be fine. Here's the pics.

well actually its technically august 7th but I'm posting for August 6th at 12:03 Am. I did alot of sketching today but decided to hold of on finishing the painting. Tommorrow I'm going to start on it before I do my sketching so that I make sure I finish it. here are 3 sketches I did of this frog thing I have in 3 different views.

Well, today I did alot of drawing/painting. I finished the painting I started, and did a pencil sketch of a dog that I actually really like. Infact I think it turned out better then the painting. Any way here they are, please feel free to comment.

Today I gathered up some vases for the sketch. The shading is a little rough because I started to get impatient. For the painting I found a piggy bank we had in our kitchen. I'm not done with the painting but hopefully it will be finished by tommorow. here's the pics, comment away!

It was skull practice for me today. I did a couple with reference, and a few without (you'll be able to tell which used ref). I still gotta couple of really wonkey lines and evenness to fix. Tommorow I want to try full skeletons.

I am posting for August 10th (its 12:30 am my time). I didn't get to drawing until about 11:30 today. It has been a week sense I started this sketchbook, and I'm proud to say i think I improved a little. so far I have been able to maintain the sketching goal just not the painting goal. I sort of figured that the painting would be difficult. Anyway today I decided to do a more in depth study of the human skull before I move on. I still have alot to learn so eventually I will practice it more. Ill decide what I want to study tommorow.

posting for august 13th. Today I decided to return to still life before I move on to anatomy, and more advanced things. I'm really trying to perfect my sense of shape because it still needs alot more work before I can move on. here are the sketches.

Still working on still life subjects, I decided to give the glass another shot because I didn't like how the last one turned out. This one isn't much better though.

You're getting better w/ each posting, I think. I wish I had more to say, but I think at this point, you know what you're doing well on and what you need to improve on, so keep it up!

I drew some fruit in a bowl, and a watering can today, I've been following the advice of a book called the Fundamentals of Drawing, its been suggesting alot of still life which is why I'm still on that subject. Hopefully I'll be able to move on soon but its been good practice drawing all these house hold objects. Thanks for the encouraging words stylus

Today I kind of had to rush so I didn't get the usual two drawings in I have lately. I leave to go visit my dad in about 4 hours so I had to get packed, and ready. This also means I wont be posting images until I get back in about a week. I still do my daily post but the images wont show up until the 22nd of August. Anyway here is the sketch for today. It was a wooven basket but I had a hard time with the weave and it took me three tries to get it semi-right. This one got a little annoying to try finish.

Felt pretty tired today, and barely got any sketching at all in. I'd think it was jet lag but I only moved back a single time zone. The drawing for today was... well I really dont know exactly what it is. Some sort of tool thing.

Got a little more drawing in today. I did a hammer, and a shoe as part of the every continueing study of still life I have been doing.

Barely got any drawing in today but I just had to remind myself of my promise. My family went to a reunion that lasted most of the day. The sketch is of a bunch of bannanas, most of it was drawn from memory because my little brothers ate the bannanas.

Day four of my vacation to visit my dad. got a little sketching in today of a metalic lamp, I'm going to do a little more sketching before I head off to bed. (update) drew another shoe before I went to bed.

Day five of my trip, and its almost over. Today I drew another shoe, my ipod, and a few rocks all as recomemded by the book. My still life studies will be over for now very soon, and I'll start to work on vehicles and perspective.

Keep up with the studies mate! Your doing a great job thus far.

Nice stuff! A few quick suggestions, Check out Loomis for human anatomy (and he's free!), work on pencils before painting, and make sure you're happy with your lines before you start rendering. Great improvement so far though!

Your work from life is looking pretty good. That dog sketch in fact is better than anything I've ever done (and I'm so old I'm almost dead!)!

Hope the effort pays off and you get what you want.

All the images I did over my trip have been posted as promised. Man, that was alot of scanning...For today I did a couple of special drawing excersizes
my book suggests to try. First was to try drawing all the spaces between an object instead of the object. Second was to draw a series of crumbled up
papers each getting more complicated then the last. I'm posting the final image I did. I think I'm going to try the first exersize again tommorow.

Man, today was crazy!!!!! It was the first day of school, and things were extremely hectic. First I had to rush to school because I was late because I couldn't find some important papers I needed (still haven't found) then I got to school, my teachers gave me tons of homework. after second period I had to get a bus ride up to the applied college Im also going to. I rode back at 3:00 and had to rush to get to a dentist appointment. I got home an hour later, had to rush to finish my summer homework for english, plus all the math homework. Finally at 10:00 i got to do some really quick sketching. I attempted to do the excersize again. This is a very fast sketch I'm really tired and am going to bed soon. Tommorow I have commercial art so I will definately get more drawing in. heres the sketch

Another Fairly quick sketch today, finally I'm moving on from plain old object drawing to interior rendering. (actually I skipped a couple of excersizes in the book to get here hehehe). Anyway this proved to be alot more difficult then object drawing so I am going to try this quite a few times until I got it down just right. (btw this is the corner of my living room if neone is interested)
