hey yall. im gonna be moving up to tokyo in less than a month, and i know we got some ca'ers representin in the far east, definitely in tokyo, so i thought i would try to see if people were interested in starting a tokyo sketchgroup. i will definitely be there permanent for the next year starting in september 1st, and before that ill be making trips back and forth. anyway, if anyone's interested, say the word. peace yall.
awesome! where in tokyo do you live man? ill be living around the toritsu daigaku area, which is off of the tokyu toroko line, kinda close to shibuya. theres a guy here, tensai, maybe youve heard of him, that said he'd be interested in doing something occasionally. im sure we'll all be busy, but when we could, it would be nice to meet up and sketch, i think.
yeah i know of him, i'm actually asking him to help me review my portfolio to have a guage of my chances at 1 of the universities.
i'm staying in the koutou area. few stops east of tokyo station. i might be moving though, i need someplace with cheaper rent.

purb, a heng - of course, if time permits i would love to hook up. are there any other peeps here that are in tokyo? i know gez lives in kanagawa which is a bit far though, and i'm sure he's busy. i think one japanese guy posted in my sketchbook before but havent come across anybody else.
purb - i did my masters in midorigaoko, which is in between jiyugaoka and oookayama, close to where you will be i guess.
i live in ogikubo, on the chuoline - in between shinjuku and the ghibli museum, which is both a little less than 10 minutes from my house ...
a heng - how is that stuff coming man? any certain area you're thinking to move into? if you do get into a university you might want to consider moving into a dorm? thats definitely cheap...
what i'd seriously love is some nude/figure sketch group. all the classes/courses i've seen were mad expensive though.
tensai - yeah, my station is like, one stop from jiyugaoka. looking at the map, youre not relatively far, maybe about an hour or so by train, maybe less. if life drawing classes and stuff are expensive, maybe we could just find our own models and work something out; im sure if we ask around we could find somebody.
heng - where do you live now? what places are you thinking of applying to? if you did get in, or even if you didnt, dorms would definitely be your cheapest bet. i actually just found a place on www.sakura-house.com; the places are pretty cheap and well equipped too. they go fast, so check it out soon if you cant find other stuff.
gugg - come on by man, you're always welcome. and thx for the rating; this group definitely deserves 5 stars. 8)
ill be going up to tokyo this coming sunday actually, and ill be training for my new job for all of next week, but nights should be free, so if we wanted to meet up somewhere, that might be cool too.
also, this guy, stryfe25 (or something like that) was (and maybe still is) in tokyo; havent seen him around in a long time though...

tensai - i'm trying to do more mechanical sketches, all i have now are portraits and gestures, not much relevance to ID i think.
i'd like to find a place between kokubunji and shinjuku. my current language school is in shinjuku, but musabi is in takanodai while tamabi is in hachioji, so kokubunji seems like a good midway. neither of the schools offer dorms, though they have affiliated property agents, but those choices are not available to me till feb. i'm going to check some bbs to see if anyone needs a temp roommate.
undertow - nice lookin through your book after a long time; nice stuff man. you healed yet? my friend goes to iwakuni every so often, if i had known you were there too, i wouldve made the trip sometime. as of now, im ending work and moving to tokyo, and ending work means non-stop formal parties just about every day. too much man. but i hope to get to meet up at some point man, either up north or down south. take care man; let us know if your ever up by tokyo, and we'll do the same if we ever take a trip to the deep south. ogenki de!
ill be comin up to tokyo this evening for the week (ill be back up starting september 1st); if some of yall are free sometime this week, preferably from thursday on, i would love to meet just to put some faces to CA handles, maybe get in a sketch or 2 while we're at it. dou deshyou ka? talk back.
oh, and vashthestampede is over in osaka, if anybody is gonna stop by the area.
I'm all healed up, thanks for the concern I'm only going to be out this way for another month or so before I go back to Seattle FOR GOOD as I'll be a civilian again sooo.. I'll do my best to try and make it up north.
ah - haha, i hope youre kidding dude. its a little too close to home for me, being a kindergarten teacher and all; i dont know if im ready to go that far though.
hawk - cool man, im at toritsu daigaku on the toyoko line, couple of minutes away. yoyogi is next to harajuku, right, on the JR?
i know that ill be free on saturday after my package comes in, maybe if some of yall want to meet up sometime saturday? whats the deal yall? if its nice weather, i thought harajuku might be a good place to sketch, with all the people doing cosplay and whatnot. but im open to suggestions; who's got somethin?
t - yeah, im writing from my new apt right now, as im waiting for some packages. ill be going back to okayama ken to finish out the end of my contract, and then i will be here permanently on the 1st of september. wish you could come out man, but it is what it is. enjoy the day dude.
ah - i just read closely and you said you DONT have a cellphone. do you have a phone somewhere, or whats the best way to reach you? and why were you up so early today?
whats up, bakana gakatachi? im finally all moved in to tokyo, and finished 1 week of work. hope all's goin well with yall. so yeah, im itchin to get somethin started. i'd definitely at least like to meet up at some point, so lets work on meeting each other first. whats going on with yall this week? lets try to set something up, if some people are free. oyasumi.
glad you made it over purb. how is your new place?
i'm up till my ears in work - basically till the 20th. between 20th and 27 is possible for me - (sorry it seems so difficult right now, but i'm in one of those times where too much work is hitting me from all sides, all at the same time, while before i almost started to pray for some). i hate to plan this so far in advance and kill all spontaneity, demo - shou ga nai na?
so, how about it?
edit - shiijit, make that between 25th and 28th... after which i'll go to paris and amsterdam for one or two weeks...

genius - new place is fine, just kinda small and expensive. good location, though. sometime between the 25th and 28th, if it falls on a saturday or sunday, that would be best for me (work during the week)...hmmmm...seems like thats during the week. i dont think i can swing that, but we will see what comes up. if people wanna meet up next weekend, i think that might be great; plus, i might go to harajuku on sunday afternoon, so if people wanna meet up, that would be cool. i found an atelier in shinjuku close to shinjuku station as well, so i wanna check them out sometime and just see what they have there; maybe they have life classes and such. here's the link: www.moliere.co.jp/atelier/ ...wow...i just checked out the website, and i think they have FREE lifedrawing classes on wednesdays 6:30-9. they have figure drawing as well on thursdays, but im not sure if you have to pay for that or not. anyway, its an idea.
purb man -
next weekend is definitely no go for me. i got a crazy deadline on sunday night... i'll have to go to europe for two weeks in october. maybe before, maybe we meet after that.
great find on that atelier. i'll take anything i can get i think.
i'm not sure but it seems to me the wednesday class is ¥2000, but you don't have to pay the registration money (¥10.000) that you pay the atelier when you strart to follow classes. could be wrong though. it's been ages and ages since i studied kanji, hehe.
