First off, I want to thank you all (Davi) for the invite into this exclusive SB section, I'm pretty flattered, cause there are some damn badass artists around here, as we all know, and to be counted among
them, even if it's just barely hangin' onto their bootstraps, is a real honor. That said! Here we go:
I'm sure you are familliar with my "Lady Don't Tek No" illustration, so forgive the repost, but along with it, are the process sketches that lead up the final, as well as the layered .psd file for those that might
be interested in how I set things up...
aaaand the final illx:
and here's the .psd file: "Lady Don't Tek No" All Zipped Up
Next up! The process sketches for my illustration of Sid, the "Urbain Flibustier":
hooray for details!
Okay... what's next here... let's see... Oh yes! My Hograffat. It's a sort of mamalian dragon I made up. So here's a few images presenting this new species:
And lastly! Here's a random painting. I had done it in class off of a model, and we were to illustrate "Gluttony" one of the 7 deadly sins:
Okay! That's it for now. I've been a bit under the weather, so when I'm fealing better, I'll sketch some more and post some more. Thanks again everyone!!
Also, for those that have maybe missed my public sketchbook among the panoply of other sketchbooks, here's a link: Phuzion's Girls and Stuff...
Last edited by Phuzion; December 9th, 2008 at 02:21 PM. Reason: update
Just a little update here:
I had started this a while back... I have a facination with "Jabberwocky", so every now and then I try illustrating something from it, but I never quite finish the picture...
Here's the thumbnail sketch. It was originally about 2.5 inches tall... it's showing the boy by the Tum Tum Tree, his Vorpal blade in hand...
"And as in uffish thought he stood
The Jabberwock with eyes of flame
Came wiffling through the tulgey wood
And burbled as it came..."
And this is the wip painting:
Yeah, that's it for now... I'll scan some stuff in at work on Monday and post more, promise!!
Okay, here are some sketches from last night... just quickies today, but I suppose that's the definition of a sketch, isn't it...
This was just a quick, little warm up sketch... trying something a little different...
More warm ups...
Here I was just playing around with a couple different styles, hoping some inspiration might strike my brain...
My muses... perhaps...?
Basically I've been feeling a little alienated not having sketched any of my girls for a while... so I had to sit down and do just that
Okay! That's it for today! But I'll probably post more tomorrow... hopefully... if I don't slack...
Okay, just another quickie so far. It's not neeearly done! This is just a first pass... It's me playing with the Priestess of the Moon from Warcraft 3. I'll be adding more details and refining it more and all that... but this is it in progress!
Okay! Hope you dig it
Well, here's something that really doesn't happen often. Me posting some figure drawings... just a few done over the course of an hour:
Warm ups! done on 8.5x14" copy paper...
more warm ups; 8.5x14" copy paper...
more rendered piece; 8.5x14" copy paper... Tuscan Red Col-Erase
Yeah! That's it. She was a great model. Actually held her poses reeeeeally well, which was awesome. Okay, hope y'all dig it!
Well, here's a quick Painter sketch. I'm really really aching to get back home and back to my oils, so I had to put Photoshop away and break out the artist oils in Painter... oh I can't wait for those oil fumes!!
Yeah, it's something a little different, as I'm getting sick of my normal shit. I'm basically just trying to find something that's at least a little out of the norm and really speaks to me... I dunno. Something's workin' here. I'm liking the limited values and that fact that I kept it light and airy. It gives it a lot more atmosphere, so don't go telling me to put more contrast, cause it ain't gonna happen!!
Okay, so I'm getting sick of drawing right now, and I'm running out of idea, mainly because I'm having to draw so much from my head for work. So! I'm going to start doing at least one speed painting from reference every day. If I have the time, I'll do more, but it sort of depends on how busy we are at work... so this is the one from this morning. About an hour. I don't want to spend more than that on these paintings. The focus is really more on color and anatomy that is... unique to the person I guess. I feel like I'm starting to just recycle the same anatomy over and over and over, and that pisses me off, cause I should be better than that. So it's time to implament some more disciplined practices. Anywho... here it is... hopefully I'll have time for another one later today:
Yeah, stay tuned! I hope to be making a lot of progress over the next few months. Thanks for the support everyone!!
Well, I've pretty much been getting sick of drawing with a pencil, mainly because the thought of rendering with a pencil bores me before the lead even touches the paper. I would rather render with paint if I render at all. So I started out with pencil, but then had to switch to pen to keep my sanity...
The dude on the left was out of my head before I decided to sketch some pictures of Keira Knightley instead...
And here's a quick acrylic I did the other morning in class from the model...
Okay! That's all folks. I'm enjoying this drawing form life/reference again. I'm learning new tricks. Yay me.

More and more and more pen sketching... and I'll leave it at that... The first 5 pages are from my head, the rest are from today in class:
Well, that's it for the update! Hope you enjoy it...
Sorry for the infrequent updates... sometimes life gets in the way of drawing as much as I'd like... So here are a couple lunch break pen drawings from reference... cause Eastwood is the man:]
I started this oil painting today... it's too wet for me to keep working on it now... so I'll continue later, but I thought I'd post a progress shot. I believe the dimentions are 18"x36"... still needs a bit of work... and damn if I need to get farther away from academic painting... oh well, it's a start anyway.
That's all folks...

Well, I started a sketchbook blog y'all. I don't know why, I just felt the need to have my own little nitch in cyberspace... so here it is!!: The D/L Blog
So stop on by sometime, and comment/crit/scope...
P.S. But don't worry! I'll still be posting on CA
So this is the progress so far on the "God of Art" CHOW challenge, though I'm clearly going with "Goddess of Art"... Y'all should go check out the Weekly Challenges if you haven't already!! They're great fun.
Full resolution detail...
Bloody hell I disklike that painting up there
Anywho, I revisited this one, so here is phase two in it's journey:
And a couple sketches of the same girl/my best friend/my Muse:
AND!!! I have some more work and a new oil painting I started on my blog:
The D/L Blog
So stop on by and check it out. Comment, crit, say hi, you know the drill
Here are some random sketches/drawings, as well as a few for a watercolor portrait... just different approaches to how I might draw it. I went with the last one, but scanned and printed it at 6% opacity, hit it with workable fixative, then painted it. That way the lines wouldn't show. So now I have an original painting, AND an original drawing... yay me. Then there's a little 30 minute watercolor study from a photo, and an oil painting I just finished, though this isn't the final version... Good times.
Okay! That's that. I can't tell you how glad I am not to be doing digital right now. I think it was killing brain cells, and making me retarded. Y'all should watch out for that
Here are couple more little watercolor studies they're both 8.5"x11":
There are some bigger details of the two little portraits on my BLOG for those interested. Otherwise, stay tuned for more.
Hey y'all! Just wanted to pop in and say sorry for not updating. I'm having computer issues that are preventing me from scanning work, but as soon as that's fixed, I'll get back on it. Just wanted to let you know I'm not just being a negligent host
Well, I had to take a bit of a break from all this internet activity and put my mind to more meaningful things, or at least for fulfilling things, like my painting. So here are a few products from my introspection:
Some class work:
This is a series of guoache/watercolors I did for class called "Homewreckers w/ Peacemakers", in which I took existing photographs and turned them into more narrative illustrations:
And lastly, an oil painting I just finished. It's done from a live model, and is really just practicing painting... well, from a live model. Playing with color, and always working on painting flesh:
So that's it for now! I'll try not to be such a stranger, but sometimes life takes hold and all we can do is hang on for dear... life. yeah.
