It's time for Ironworks next big show!
The show is March 25th at 8:00PM with a party afterwards. Anybody who came to the last one can testify it was a great time! There's some pictures on the website, as well as directions:
THIS TIME, though, we're upping the ante. I've purchased sixteen feet of track lighting, and the gallery is expanded. This means we can show more work! We're trying to include any and all mediums, and get a wide selection of art. If you have something kicking around that you've wanted to show off - this would be a great opportunity!
Get in touch with me ASAP if you want something in the show - there's a small, five dollar submission fee to help pay for all the improvements. Also, I don't have the resources to ship large parcels out of here, so this is ideal for local NYCers.
Originally, Arkady and I had planned to have the show juried but I've changed my mind on the subject - the work is just going to be too varied to pronounce some sort of winner.
I'm equal parts psyched and stressed out about this!
ok, i'll also use this thread as a "work in progress" for the gallery. Here's a picture of one of the new tracks:
I wired it and installed that lightswitch myself! Go me!
The other track goes up this week, and I just got new bulbs to replace that bat signal in that pic! I'll also touch that wiring up a bit, its practically a death trap now!
The short answer is, contact me directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we'll work it out.
Longer answer - I'm trying to collect everything by this weekend. If someone is going to be at SoI, you can give it to me there (I think I'll go on Thursday, I have too much to do to go this week to go both nights), if it's portable. Or you can give it to me at the gallery on Saturday, where I'll pretty much be there all day. Probabaly Sunday too, but if you can do it on Saturday please do that.
If your work is too large or too delicate to transport on subway, and you don't have a car, get in touch with me and I'll try to get you in touch with someone who does. Maybe we can do a cab/carpool thing.
I don't really have the resources to mail people's work back to them, so if someone wants to send something in they're going to have to give me a check for the return postage as well as the five dollar submission fee. Sorry, I'm financing this whole thing myself and I've already racked up a hefty bill between the tracks, the bulbs, assorted other hardware, and drinks/food.
Here's the address:
259 East 134th Street
Bronx, NY 10454
Get guaranteed mail! We've had problems with some mail delivery so you'll need a tracking number to make sure it doesn't get sucked into the same black hole my weekly Economist subscription falls into.
BTW the new bulbs look awesome - I'll post a new pic tonight!
lookin good Nate!! did you get my email?
sure did! Did you get my response?
Can't wait to start collecting this stuff.
Arkady - I still have a lot of the spot bulbs and the receipt. It wouldn't be too much trouble to exchange them for flood lights. Is there a good ratio? I think I'd like to keep some of the spot lights...
if you still have the dirty sanchez floods then you should be ok. if not we can cross the spots and fake the funk. floods are good for, you know, flooding the wall with light. since we plan to have a ton of stuff on the walls i would normally use the floods. the spots are good for sculpture and for really dark work that absorb all the light. but you sould be ok with what you have.
meh the sanchez bulbs kinda suck. I tested one out and it looked like ass. I'll try putting it at another angle but it's not too much trouble to exchange some of the bulbs (they're still in their packages and whatnot).
You hustle anybody at the society last night?
i tried to. Lynne said to use her drawing from the last show. i talked to Joan and the girls. and a few other people here and there. Sandro wasn't there. I just remembered that he went to Italy for a few weeks.
nate & Amish...I may have something to give...can I give it to Arkady tomorrow at the Society? Does it have to be framed? It can be anything?
Should I stop wasting space on here and just email Nate? Why am I such an asshead?
peace out homies!
No I didn't get your response from my email. what did you say? when is the show again? and can I give you my painting in the middle of the week. I need to do some fix-ups, and maybe get it framed. Let me know what works best for you. nice Flyer by the way
Tiff you going to the society tonight? I'll talk to you there, we'll figure somethin out
The second track's up!
my dad (University of Louisville 1968, Valedectorian School of Electrical Engineering) would be proud....
that is a work of art in and of itself. i like the use of primary colors with the black and white. a very interesting take on a Piet Mondrian classic with relevance to the 21st century
If only I had something submission worthy...
I emailed you!
Your light tracks look fabulous by the way.
Hey emailed you back!
I must have been filtering you out of my life, because you where in my bulk Mail, I'm sorry.
I hope this didn't have a double meaning. I still Love you Nate, no worries!
Ok time for a few posts. To start off light, some pics:
tidied up the electrical:
and tidied up the gallery space
this is shaping up to be something. Someone from the Bronx Arts Council is coming and I'm going to talk to them about perhaps getting some government cheese for all this bullshit.
i had the name of the newspaper for publicity for you on a post it in my wallet but like a dumbass i lost it. i'll get it tomorrow. and maybe we can do some last minute shmoozing of the person writing for the A&E section
OK, time for me to run down a list of artists and their pieces that will appear in this show.
If you see a spelling error, let me know ASAP!!!!!! (everything now is ASAP!!!!!! six fucking exclamation points!!!!!!) And Angel and Scott, I don't have your last names, so please contact me via email, phone (718-801-2490) or post here ASAP!!!!!!

damn thats a lot of shit!
Anyone up here is invited to come to my place tomorrow @6:30 for the hanging - come on by and lets put this shit on the walls!
son don't sweat the publicity thing, I've talked to some people and its wayyyy too late to get that ball rolling.
Needless to say, I've learned a lot of lessons this time around. Next time everything'll be a lot more streamlined.

That's what my parents named me....I was a surprise (it's in the name)
you can put a positive spin on that by calling it underground, as in "this shit is so underground, you're gonna need a shovel". See that? Now it's not your fault if people don't know, it's because they're hopelessly out of touch and should feel appropriately ashamed and mortified for not being there.I've talked to some people and its wayyyy too late to get that ball rolling
I think I'll be by about 6:30, but it's only my 2nd time driving into Brooklyn and I have absolutely no idea what the traffic is like around then. I expect it's anything but good.
