You MUST include a description or backstory this round, or your image wont be taken to poll. Good luck!

Noun 1. badlands - deeply eroded barren land
land, soil, ground - material in the top layer of the surface of the earth in which plants can grow (especially with reference to its quality or use); "the land had never been plowed"; "good agricultural soil"
A bastion is a fortification work projecting outward from the main inclosure of a fortification, situated in both corners of a straight wall (termed curtain), with the shape of a sharp point, facilitating active defence against assaulting troops. It allows the defenders of the fort to cover adjacent bastions and curtains with defensive fire.
The bastion was designed to offer a full range on which to attack oncoming troops. Previous fortifications were of little use within a certain range. The bastion solved this problem. By using cannons to cover the curtain side of the wall, the forward cannons could concentrate on oncoming targets.
have fun with this one its ver open, any way im off to frankfurt for a week, be back in time to put up the thread, sorry for the delay ive had way to much to do and ca has been crazy
E.O.W Round 17: Badland Bastion
well, i really really can`t do environments. but i keep trying for some unknown reason.
here`s my latest poo:
guarding the west parts of Adiria, this bastion of mages up on the hills of this badland, inhabits a powerful and wise clan, feared and respected by the commoners.
Not so bad Chuck. Beside I know exactly what you feel. I have same problem. Just can’t draw an environment. Maybe someone can help with some tutorial. C'mon guys, help us.Originally Posted by Chuck

The problem underlying any image is the same... the basics. People keep on saying ' I cant draw *****' Can you draw a cube with lighting on it? can you put a sphere on a cube, light it and make it look like its huge in perspective....? thats the knowledge you need foe a city... not much more. Once you can do the small steps, environments are not that hard. But if you dont have the basics... environments are insane.
Its like trying to build something in lego when the blocks are badly made... its gonna be a nightmare. Look to the blocks and what you build will improve exponentially. Trust me... do some basic exercises...its the fastest way to learn the complex.
P.S. Chuck... dude, yer not far off. Thats not bad at all. Keep at it!!!
ah cool topic
i will see what i can do
sketchling: good talk! I agree!
Chuck, just hang on!
Getting the basics down is just what I am doing, That's why I'm in a perspective class right now. I have also been watching and working from the Gnomon DVD's, and for those that haven't seen it, check out Sparth's site. In his gallery he has step by step shots of a couple enviros he did. His style is kick ass, and if I can get close to that level of doing enviros I'll be a happy camper.
The last outpost
built to span the Dunya chasm and provide the only trade route in to the buttes. There is water deep in the chasm to be brought up in to the tower. It is the last water for vast miles. Fortified to emphasisse the controll of the water, the tolls are heavy and there is no way around.

E.O.W #17: Badland Bastion
After chemical war we must build huge bastions which protect ours from snares of badland. "Badland" is place which was been most hiten by chemical and atomic weapons. Everything which was been hiten mutate and became very dangerous.
The deepest secrets of this world are hidden in its darkest, most dangerous folds.
The ancient plateau city of Krag'l'dar was cursed many centuries ago, when its own fire and earth were turned against it by wicked magic, in a time of Great war, by the undead hands of the Underland Warlocks. Eroding the city day by day, the denizens were unable to escape and could only watch helplessly as their city slipped into the fire, enclosing on them day by day - sealing their doom, their anger and their pain. The fires still burn, the earth still shakes, but one tower from this ancient city still stands atop the desolate charred rock...
I had time at the London meet to work on this weeks Here it is:
The badlands of the mi'elie were a famous haunt of the dregs of Contsh society. For some reason they flocked to the few remaining bastions of depravity in the wastes... despite the harsh conditions. The upper classes scorned them in public, yet in private, many were frequent patrons of their infamous delights.
superb hues, sketchling, very strong sense of desert heat even at sundown (sunup?)
Ben - one of your best! It's got a really ravaged feel to it, although the sky lacks depth...
Sketchling - beautiful. Is that a dome, moon or fuck-off-big sun in the BG?
Rawwad - whoa. I'm not sure it reads too clearly as 'badland bastion' (picture only, the description clarifies), but it just feels epic!
I've got to get in on one of these things before too long...
Out in the badlands of Meadak.4 another bastion rests, this one big enough for refueling and re-armament. The bastions run as a ring around the edge of the hyper city, each within visual range of each other for added security. Men are always on guard, ready tolight the beacon to warn of coming attack. Many of them remain only partially built as heavy building work attracts the sandworms.

Only one viable trail leads in and out of the Cerulena desert, it is known as Hnarones valley. Named after the batallion leader Capt. Diosclese Hnarones who successfully managed to instigate, protect and build bastion towers upon the erroded cliffs at the edge of the valley that afforded covering fire against the nomadic raiders who would frequently attack and pillage the once small, yet now prospering village of Hellion's Well that nestles within the cliffs footing and between the two bastions cover of fire. The natural well-spring within the village offers the only watersource for many leagues and was a necessity of ownership in the strive north into the desert and the lands beyond.
was fun to make, so... like, whateva!
sloshed it togetha today from a few photo's; not quite mattepainting (cause I actually painted all of it)...

You too badger!! Nice lighting on that by the way! You are improving on your colours a lot. Keep em coming!
Last min submission.
I envisioned an enviromental waste plant/habour built within a vast badlands, where inorganic rock formation and insectoid race now inhabit and a toxic waterfall and river now flow
I was wondering what the heck happened. You closed voting 6 horus early. lol!
Anyways, here is what i posted
Sketchling gets my vote, for his atmospheric and yet attractive rendition of a fantastical like cathedral hewn out of rock juxtaposed by a fantastical moon/sun.
haha...edit! Put that in the wrong forum... if anyone wonders what koshime was on about, i was asking uk ppl about lifedrawing places
P.S. Koshime gets my vote this round... really epic scale. Wicked.
