Well i have a liberal interpretation of those terms but here is the first connection i made.
but hell, it could be a submarine and a dock ontop of a kelp forest, it could be a gigantic "city canopy" and spaceships. Have fun looking for ideas and when you catch one run with it.
ooh, i'm definitely doing this. nice topic!
might try my hand at this... bit scary as i sucksuck suck at environments.. need to practice!
.I was there
where the whales were singing,
under a canopy of millenium ice
the gods descend
onto blue stairs of depth
but I didn't heard a thing,

Goran, you'll probably get my vote regardless of what entries will come in later :-)
Don't rely on this, though... ;-P
I love it!
Those airships rock! It has the same crispness like your DSG Emperor's ship.
But one crit: you could clean up the black border, which still has some texture layer spills on it, unless it was done on purpose ;-)
I won't do this one.
Goran, that sir, is a beautiful piece of art you got there. I have returned to this page about 3 times now just to look at it, finally had to say something about it. Hope I get me COW finished in time to get an entry here, and I hope my entry comes out half that good when its done. Love the color, perspective, the ships. Much respect.
am feeling quite intimidated and mouse-like (a small and humble creature)
but here is my final
The deepforest mages of Talin meditate in peace in their treetop Do-jos. When they wish to visit their fellows They travel in the slow gracefull Air trolleys. If a Mage sees their fellow approach they have time and luxury to prepare for the elaborate hospitality ceremonies which pass for social contact among these naturally reclusive people.

Sketchbook:: //// A thread of evolution ////
Great perspective Goran. I saved it straight to my 'inspiration' folder
I don't really dare to post here, but that EoW thing looks like a good opportunity to practice more and harder. So anyways, here i go
"Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen! Please fasten your seatbelts, we approach for landing now. Looks like a great warm summer morning! Sun's shining, covered by some little clouds and it's already a temperature of 24 °C. We approximately have 6 minutes left until we land on c4x city. Enjoy the beautiful view over the largest harbour on this planet with its gigantic Tower. Have a great day!"
this is really gorgeous ..but doesn't "Canopy" imply a forest is involved somehow? and the top of the forest at that?
Main Entry: 1can·o·py
Inflected Form(s): plural -pies
Etymology: Middle English canope, from Medieval Latin canopeum mosquito net, from Latin conopeum, from Greek kOnOpion, from kOnOps mosquito
1 a : a cloth covering suspended over a bed b : a cover (as of cloth) fixed or carried above a person of high rank or a sacred object : BALDACHIN c : a protective covering: as (1) : the uppermost spreading branchy layer of a forest (2) : AWNING, MARQUEE
2 : an ornamental rooflike structure
3 a : the transparent enclosure over an airplane cockpit b : the fabric part of a parachute that catches the air
Yes, I'm "that guy"
ok I should done that......geez 12 more ideas.. just riffing on the different definitions..I of course was using 1 c. (1).... not to be confused with a canape´
harbour which would involve, little pickles
Wippin' and placeholdin'...
... and Chaos, jus' so's you don't feel bad, I will shamelessly be using "definition 1 c. (1)"... but not entirely...
The Jungles of Mehlia
In a forest where canopies rise above canopies, the giant Mehlium Trees take flight. Saplings become infused with gas, converting nutrients and minerals within wooden chambers during their growth cycle. As they reach maturity, these gas-inflated behemoths pull from the earth to hover above the jungle, bloated sentinals watching over a lush, tangled wilderness. Trading guilds take advantage of these floating havens, whose gas they harvest to power their own flying ships, carving harbors and outposts out of the trees themselves.
A warning to any industrious engineer, that while these trees provide the means to travel anywhere in the land, their refuge is not long lived. After a decade or so of self-sustained flight, the trees themselves slowly begin to die, using up their own stored resources. As they wither away, the drying hulks become susceptible to fires, turning a floating sanctuary into a violent conflagration.

nice work goran. surprised not to see more entries on this theme.
here is my progress on this so far on this.
A small community on the edge of civilization, Kalymeed is a last stop for adventurers and explorers headed into the great unknown. Kalymeed is well known throughout the kingdom for its potent brews such as the Wide Eyed Sloth and Devil’s Urine, brewed locally in the Itchy Monkey Pub.
wow corrick... floating island (floating turnip?) I can't wait to see it. I may have to draw the liliputian port in the bed canopy though at some point...
Tyranx, major points for the peg-leg guy. That's funny shit.
Chaos, yes, it's a floating turnip. I have a premonition that turnips are going to play a much more important role in the future of humanity, much more than the meager part they already perform. Sliced in a salad? Made into soup? Change is on the wind...

Tryranx, nice entry. Many great details and really nice lightening.
chortle......Turnips of the world unite! (would be a good substrate for the pig-headed hydra (see DSG).
anyway...up date. the right side is nearly done the left side needs work yet
Right i better go to bed, would have had this done soon, but i've had to get a house, which has also stopped me going to montreal, GRRRRRR!! GRR!!
*edit* as far as i'm gonna get i think.
The Landscape of PB-435 is terribly invasive, the bright sunlight allowing the forest to reach enormous heights and grow quickly. While this doesn't hamper permanent building measure it makes maintaining a ground port incredibly difficult. The solution was simple, interplanetary traffic could dock in harbours well above the ground. Large amounts of greenery have been encouraged to grow over these harbours in order to blend them into the natural habitat and to save on heating.
Another less official explanation is that the shadier crews prefer not to be seen in the easily monitored bright open space.

Tyranx also rocks!
