Huh! hey Rob
just saw this, I'm right here (well, Millwoods actually)
there's more of us but only a couple I'm aware of. There's the Bioware guys in town but only one posts on ca I think. Check out in finally finished, Jade Empire concepts thread.
Oh and Rob, you might might to change your phone # on your resume, your not in 905 world anymore
Weird. I think we're on the same wavelength. I was just checking that site out tonight. Looks good. I'm definitely interested.
It's nice to see a place with so many venues. I might end up going on Monday to see what it's like. I can't go THIS Friday, but am pretty much available to go anytime after. I might even take in one of the 9 hours sessio
Lemme know when your going, it'll be nice to meet up with a fellow CA'er.
I did check it out, last Monday. Seemed pretty good, they have tables and a few eisles kicking around. They provide coffee and cookies as well. Not many people showed up, probably because it was Monday afternoon, so it will be interesting to see how many show up on Friday. The model was good too, not good as in good looking, but good as in she knew what to do.
I'll be there on Friday, hope to see you there.
And, If your looking for me in there, I have black jacket, glasses and I'm in my mid 20's.
Hey, I just stumbled on this thread when I realized that sketchgroups existed and that there might be one here in Edmonton where I live.
Oddly enough we may have already met as I frequent Harcourt House life Drawing sessions mostly on Friday nights but sometimes on Wednesday nights. I haven't been there in the past few fridays and unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it this Friday, (Feb 24), but the following week I'm going to be getting back into my routine.
It'd be great to get together with others to do drawing. I'm checking out this Edmonton Subway Sketch group right now, and boy does it look like fun.
Anyways just thought I'd let you know you're not the only CAers in the Edmonton looking for others to draw with.
Oh did we meet? I'm trying to figure out which one of the guys there you were. I'm so horrible with names that I've already forgotten which names go to which face.
Well I can't wait to see everyone the next time around hopefully.
I was the guy who came really late... like 4 hours late.
Ah yes, now I know who you are ,
Well, if it stays on Saturday afternoon for the next sketch session I wont be seein you, but I checked out your website, and some really inspirational stuff on there!
So I took Colours art supplies store's airbrush workshops today in their southside location. And I recommend it to anyone who wants an introduction to airbrushing.
The instructor is Keith Harcus, one of the twins who owns/runs the business. He's been teaching for something like 16 years so he's pretty knowledgeable about the tool and how to use it.
Morning workshop was an intro one which costs a measly $5. Keith went over the basic FAQs of airbrushing. Showing the small class a couple brands of airbrushes and different paints. "Single-action", "dual action", gravity-feed, side-feed, back flashing....some terms I learned today.
Workshop #2 is a hands-on beginner's class where we did 3 simple projects using the tool and different "materials" (airbrusher's l33t term for paints). This cost $50.
I took both workshops and somebody mentioned that a similar continuing-ed class in town can cost up to $600. So I think the 2 workshops in one day is a pretty good deal.
It's actually a sophisticated marketing strategy, since classes are held in the stores. But there was no pressure to buy or one brand of paints is pushed over others. I did discover the oh-so-quiet Super Silent 20-A air compressor. Purrs like a kitten but costs $700! Also an Aztek airbrush that has a flippable paint reservoir looks pretty appealing.
They run the workshops at different times during the year. Just check their website for the schedules.
Hey, did you know mylar can be used like sand paper?
Not sure what to expect with this one but I'm interested in checking out the "Forgotten Garden" program. It's free. Location is in the renovated or newly built "Arts Barn" in Old Strathcona - where they hold the annual Fringe festival.
Hey, glad to see Edmonton Artists on here. I was thinking of starting an Edmonton post but looks like's there is one all ready started. We should think of a time to sketch together. I live in Glenora, its about 5 mins outside of Downtown (well about 15min now that the roads are a shit show.) Anyways, lets get something started.
I think you'll be happy to know, that there is more than you see here, and that in fact there is a regular meeting time and place the a bunch of us artists get together for. Unfortunately this thread isn't really used for that, but over at CGtalk is a thread for the alive and going sketchgroup. The website is http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=247679 and if you go to the last page you can see whats been going on.
Right now we meet around 1pm on Sundays at SUB on the University campus, as that has been the most convenient and easy for everyone involved. The meeting time has been slowly migrating to noonish but as of yet it's still 'set' at 1pm.
Anyways, come check out the thread a CGtalk, and if all goes well see you on Sunday!!
If you have any questions, just send me an e-mail or a pm, and I'll try to keep on eye on my messages.
hey man no worries, thats the beauty of this group...it's every week! So you dont have to feel guilty about missing one. Right now it's every sunday at 1pm (some of us do show up a little earlier).
Feel free to start posting on the sketchgroup forum that I linked earlier and show some of your work if you have any!
I hope to see you out on Sunday!
Hey Dave, I dont have a scanner or digital camera, so most of my work i cant post. I also have a wacom tablet and laptop, but i havnt used it much, I wouldnt mind bringing it one time to get some tutorials on how to use it the best. I just dont like the feel of it at the moment. Thanks for the info, I'll try to make it next week.
Hey man, no worries about showing work...it was just an idea, and quite frankly I barely post my work either. You can definately bring a tablet to the sketchgroup and a lot of people there have used one, and everyone has their own ways of using them so you can maybe find the way that works best for you!
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Heh... Will you pay? haha
Unfortunately finances nowhere near make it a possibility, although I would love to go. I really wish I could make it as I could definately use the rejuevenation.
I take it by your asking, that you are...and if so Have a great time! And you can be secure in knowing that I will be envying you the entire time!
Hey, I walked through both SUB, CAB and HUB today from about 12:45-1:10, i didnt see groups of people with sketchbooks out and about. Any chance we can pick a very specific spot in SUB, like the couch areas? I'm also reading something about the Garneau community center, is this the new meeting spot? Anyways, I hope all this can be i sorted out.
