Workshop

PRAGUE 2005

As some of you already know, I'm no longer teaching at Art Center college of Design.
My days of teaching at formal learning institutions has finally (and gladly) come to an end. It was a long 10 years of corporate bureaucratic hell.
Although I met and had a chance to work with many talented young aspiring artists (Puddenhead... among others) while teaching at Art Center and L.A. Academy of Figurative Art. I've come to realize that the only way to fully express the ways of paint... is through direct contact in an intimate workshop enviroment.
As was the workshop from earlier this year in San Francisco. Prague will prove to be a moment none of us will soon forget.
I'm looking forward to walking the dead streets of one of the darkest cities of eastern Europe... with all of you.

Wow - Just saw your Portrait studies!

-impressive, really. It looks like you ate Sargent, drank Freud, and spit them out in oils onto canvas... AMAZING. I will learn from you any day.

Thanks Pablo~

The portraits take about 5 hours....
It's nice to be able to start and finish a piece in one day...

The other paintings on my site take anywhere from 2-4 months. "Morphine" (below) took 6 months...

Damn. Beautiful paintings. The array of images on your site is fantastic. The alla prima and narrative works are equally amazing. Your vision and technique appears seamlessly integrated. Really impressive stuff, I'm blown away.

Your work is amazing all over! Can't get enough of it...
I can see where puddnhead harvested a portion of his inspiration, with all do respect for this masterful artist.

Morphine is still one of my favourites... That one will always be with me.

This stuff is great mike! Something about the 'young girl' portrait on your site is really doing it for me.
is there any chance you would be doing some sort of workshop around Pasadena/LA area? or possibly teaching at LAFA again in the future?

Hey Ben,
No... I'll only be teaching at CA/MassiveBlack workshops.

The portrait of a Young Girl is hanging in a Bar here in Pasadena. Drop by and check it out if you get a chance.
It's @ 1030 E. Green st

Lightbulb

You were one of the artists to "discover" for me at SF. you were eager to share your knowlegde of art and give advice all the time. that's what its all about, learning from each other.
I love your work, especially the juicy portraits ever since I saw them standin there.
great to see some new stuff, and esp. hear that you'll be at future workshops, too.
