Min's Sketchbook (21/01/2010, pg119)

Site hacked and I've lost lots of images that was linked here.. so sadly it will take sometime before I can put them back up...

Hi!

I am pretty new here, wish I had joined up earlier.
Recent sketches, I am studying anatomy and trying to develop my style at the moment. Things to do list seems to grow daily, especially after looking this forum. So many talented artists!.

Feel free to make crits and comments, if you want to make any corrections you are more than welcome to do so.

cheers,

Min

eyeball, I think I got carried away a little..

I'm not even close to being near anywhere remotely within sight of your skill level, but from where I'm at it looks awesome.

Congratulations, you have a fanboy.

Good thumbs, word on the street is the key to getting the movement and emotion out if through doing a lot of thumbs. Heads are looking good, very good perspective study you've got going on. I can just imagine these faces and characters fully finished in environments and with things going on, looks good in my head!

Personally, I think the biggest suggestion you'll hear is to not worry about or concentrate on your style, but rather to just draw how you draw and get your anatomy and foundation skills down first, then the style just seems to appear one day and you roll with it.

These quick grayscales are looking good, have you worked with any color?

Keep the posts rolling and thanks for dropping by my sketchbook!

Ian

Masmak, cheers mate. Good to see a fellow Aussie here. A bit chilly in sydney though and thanks for the mega compliment though i don't deserve it.

IanE, I been looking at your progress, solid solid. Did I mention you have patience!. good thing and thanks for the advice, and yes your are right about styles. I have worked with colours, but me being cursed with it have dropped it, also I want to build more foundation with anatomy, perspective and form. Only using black just get the forms is good I think, but I have a feeling it will somehow effect when I get onto colour, but for now just getting values right is hard enough.

These are pretty much my last colour stuff, occassionally made colour stuff but hardly since I got really down to anatomy and figure. some stuff from daily sketch group at cgtalk.com.

Hello, good sir, I have been waiting for the time you start a sketchbook so I can return the comments you have left on mine as they are always insightful and a true lil happy moment of my day.

I like your faces and gestures, the faces are stylised very well and it looks pretty uncluttered.. Only crit I can give is that the shadows under some of the eyeballs just don't look right, as if they're a bit too long.

Love the lil digital of the kiddie in the bed - most adorable

The last two guys have some anatomical errors in terms of the respective of their lower halves, I think you rushed into the clothing too fast there

K, I'm done, waiting for more!

Thanks Look.

AngryScientist, thanks for the comment. You know, I read through your post and felt like I got caught in the act. The biggest problem I have at the moment with facial features is the eyelid. I know how it works but my hand refuses to draw them as I know them.... yeah..so practice hey? And your comment about the clothing being rushed..and...lower half... how did you know? i have always drawn figure top half so when it comes to bottom half I get lost.....bah.. Thanks for your comments and your compliments too.

so an update, I am planning on drawing at least one face from ref each day.. and mix some stuff, anatomy, free drawing or perspective. My worst fears are all there. crits and comments again are most welcome.

Again from ref.

So trying to do the bottom half.. anatomy...stuff..

Love the second face and the anatomy study! And of course the first is awesome, but the second one wins because of the expression.

I'm still not skilled enough to find anything to crit, so...
Yet more consistently great work. Keep it up!

glikster, thanks, I hardly have any understanding of form and lighting working on it though.

Masmak, cheers mate. Yeah he did have a funky expression, as you probably know I am not good at drawing expression....list of things to do seems to grow daily......

flip the master, hardly call that painting, just trying to see things in values, no different to rendering in pencil just quicker with a paint brush in PS I guess. YOU ARE 14!!! so take your time.. your stuff is awsome so.. stop whinging...

[EDIT] some life drawings, I think these were 15~20 mins. Sorry for the crap quality, I am shocking at taking pictures.. I will post more at home....

playing with texture, I hardly ever use texture brush, usually default.. didn't really bother with the form..

bah, took too long so I stuffed it half way through. Don't like her face and the hair looks stuffed.... might fix her up later..

At least one drawing/painting from ref, so here's today's one..

Critsmost welcome.

Steel Buddha, Thanks man!!!

vigostar, yeah I know I should do some big finished stuff but not satisified with my level at the moment.. inspired yet intimidated at the same time. Especially looking at all the mega talented people on CA, yours included of course, so when I feel a bit more comfortable I might do something big, for now just go with the black and white and stick figures.

hey Rodrigo,

Thanks man, your work is really impressive...really...I talked to my art director about your work today!! he was amazed at your level. I told him how old you are and stuff, Art school and all. Awsome man hope you keep up your work. Him and me we were pretty intimidated by your work, hahahah we were like, "geeeze how good is this guy???"

I work at an agency by the way, designer. So not really related to drawing and stuff, but I love drawing and been drawing for about 4 years..

well anyways.. update for today, decided to do some shoes.. threw it on my desk and did some 15~20mins with Photoshop.

don't wear these...i hate them..

shiney shoes..don't wear these either..

your last posts were an incredible process to watch at. i guess you found your way to sketch a form and shade straight to the important shadows. i especially like the anatomy and motion studies!

roll the dice, keep them coming!
