Haven't posted for a while so I am back. This is a General in a type of platemail for a game I am working on. The BG had to be white for the character sheet. Let me know what you think!
nice start. it looks flat however and i think you should try to work on in black and white so you can see the values better.
Also - tru not to use black for shadows.
keep it up.
he looks like a mix off Garisson and Knolan from Battle Chasreers, heh.
Anyways. it does look a bit flat, maybe some armor on his back we could see or something?

Nice details, but like everyone else mentioned, he appear flat. I think the problem is b/c you put the lighting source right in front of him. It's hard to work with lighting that way (at least for me). It's usually easier to move the light source to a side, either upper side (pretend it's the sun), or lower side, left, or right, whichever side it is, avoid the direct hit from the front. (Unless you are really confident with it).
Also don't be afraid to intensify the shading and lighting. Intensed shading and lightings are easier to bring the forms out.
Oblio: There is no black in this other than the lines. It only goes to dark grey. I'll convert it to b&W and see what you are talking about.
Interceptor: Yeah he does, doesn't he? hehe. The stipulations were "Old but still strong. Heavy armor but not warhammer heavy." Out of that came Knolarrison hehe.
Look: I forgot to mention in my post that I couldn't use a strong light source. I meant to mention that but I forgot. I agree with you. I always put a strong light source in but the producer didn't want that. That is also why he does not thave a huge variance in shadows to highlights. This may get recolored though for a promo pic in which I should do what you are suggesting.
Thanks for the crits!
Hey, did you by any chance go to the Illinois Institude of Art? Someone had things with a similar style up on display in the halls for a bit, I love the style you've got.
DO little background, even its character design, like this looks like in some kind of meditation - eter - initial chaos
Akhenaton: Yes actually I did, hehe. And thank you.
Danilo: Well, per the rules laid out by the company I can't do a BG.. I will if it is used for some other illustration. What do you mean in the rest of your post? I couldn't follow it.
good looking drawing you got there, the main problem i got with it tho are that his legs seem way too short. Not too sure about the angle of the feet either. nicenice ^^
I have had that crit once before and someone said that it was ust his stance. I don't know though. I'll see what I can do to change that and se if it works. Thanks!
