First off, straight up: this is not the best-paying gig that's ever been offered on this board, I'm sure. Sorry, but it's a personal project funded entirely out of my own pocket, and I just don't have cash to be spraying around. That said, it *is* paid work, should be pretty fun, and could be a cool portfolio project.
Those of you guys who are like... working on X-Men 3 or something already? You probably won't be interested.
One 24-page "Comic Book" about an inept team of superheroes, to be posted on the web a page at a time at http://www.cereabraldebris.com (my website). Art does not need to be anywhere NEAR as complex as a "normal" comic book. I'm going for a cartoony look and feel. Similarly, panel layouts need not be as ambitious as are frequently found in large-budget comic books. You'll be presented with a complete comic book script, including basic panel suggestions, description of the action and setting, dialog, all that good stuff. I will handle all compositing issues -- art can be delivered as PSD files, Illustrator files, or any other standard format -- either black on white or black on transparent. I'll turn it into a complete comic (if you want input in this part of the process, you're certainly welcome).
Check 'em out. That's a quick page I whipped up with some character details and example sketches (featuring my less-than-brilliant pencil work). I'm open to pretty liberal interpretation of these designs.
Starts as soon as I choose an artist. Ends when we're done. The pages themselves will not start going up until at least 75% of them are done, and probably not until they're all finished. I can come up with plenty of other projects to keep my site active in the interim. However, I don't want to drag this out for more than a couple of months so please, serious inquiries only.
I am doing this for fun and with no intention of making dime one off of it, so obviously I can't pay the same rates that, say, Marvel pays for a comic book. Right now my artist budget is five hundred bucks, or roughly $20/page. Color would be nice but I understand that that's not exactly luxurious wealth, so black and white is fine as well. I will handle lettering and all that. I just need the drawings. I'd prefer strong ink lines to pencil work, but I'll go with whatever.
The artist will get credit as a co-creator. If someone decides to beat down my door about producing a "Funk Force" series for Marvel or something (yeh... right), then any legal issues will be worked out with that in mind. I'm not expecting that. The artist will of course be allowed to use the work in his/her portfolio as well as linking the finished project. You'll also be permanently linked from my website from now until the end of eternity. And last but not least, if I ever feel like paying for a followup, you'd be the first person I contacted about it.
I have NO idea if anyone's going to be interested in this. If you are, feel free to send an email to email@example.com, and send me a link to a portfolio or -- even better -- a quick sketch of one of the characters from the site above (not required: I'm not trying to get free drawings out of you). Once I've decided on the artist, I'll pay $250 up front and $250 on completion. Payment can go through paypal, or by money order or cashier's check. Whichever you prefer.
I've worked both with Eddie Holly and Toonjitsu, and both will vouch that yes, I pay for the work I commision.
