hey guys, im really interested in doing book covers and was wondering if anybody knew of a forum or somthing where i could get in touch with writers in need of artists.
I'm interested in doing the same thing.
And it is the art director that decides that. You will want to pick up the 2005 Artist's & Graphic Designer's Market from Amazon (or wherever). You may also want to pick up a copy of the 2005 Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market as well, just for good measure.
Then, you get the joy of sending out hard copies of your portfolio to dozens and dozen's of publishers and waiting on your hands while they get back to you. This can take months, so bring a lunch
With luck, you'll get some gigs
Next February I'm going to a local writer's convention. There will be a lot of small press publishers and vanity press groups. In these cases the writers often are responsible to come up with a cover on their own so I thought I'd offer my services. I have no idea how well this will work, but you might try it as well. The pay would be only a fraction of what the big houses could give, but I figure if I keep them simple I wont do too bad.
