Dare to Believe - a sketchbook! :D
Edit: Newer stuff at bottom!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ G'day. My name is Pedro Jorge Magalhaes but most people just call me PJ (a lot shorter don't you reckon?*S*). I am trying really hard to improve my drawing skills so that i can eventually tell stories in a graphic format (i am also taking baby steps to tell stories in a more verbal format). I have a pretty bad work ethic but i am also trying hard to improve that.And this is where this thread comes in. I hopped in here to check out Rodrigo's and JDINX's threads and i have gotten hooked. There is an amazing amount of energy at this place. If that can rub off on me so that i draw a little more regularly than the only thing better than that, in my book, is improvement. And since i believe one will lead into another, let's not delay this any longer. As it will be readily evident at the beginning i am not on par with the quality of this place but that means i have something to shoot for, right? Just, huh, quick question: do i have to have the pics up on the web somewhere so that i can link them here? is that how it works? Eager to start, Last edited by comixnut; December 6th, 2009 at 06:24 PM.. |
hey welcome PJ, yeh i just started my sketchbook too. but anyway yeh you need to find some kind of website that will host your pictures first of all, i use www.deviantart.com as its free and easy but there is a lot more which everyone else uses, once you've got your pictures up on the web the best thing to do then is to right click on your image on the website than copy the url and paste it inbetween these image tags:
[ img] here is where you paste the url [ /img] but remember there are no spaces in the tags when you do them, have a go and ill keep checking on you, ask anymore questions if your unsure, good luck |
i would strongly recpomment you forget about dev art coz its a pain in the ass to submit stuff if ure gonna be uploading 3 or 4 pieces per day and besides they dont allow you to post pics only links
just try http://www.photobucket.com which will allow you to host images and stuff
thanks guys!
I have come across my first bump on the road. For some reason my wireless adapter and scanner just dont like each other. I have spent all morning trying to figure out why i could not scan things in to show you guys and it has taken a lot of energy out of my morning. *huffs*.
But it's all cool. I should have more energy after soccer. So i'll post what i did a couple of weeks ago and then start doing new ones today. *S* And i will also go to that bucket website to see if i can start putiing things in there.*S* |
sorry guys...
... i really like the way other people do their stuff but it is just going to take a while for me to find the place to put my images. I went to photbucket Rodrigo but presently you can only sign up for a free account between certain times of the day and i have yet to be online at those times.
so this will have to do for now. http://www.geocities.com/comixnut/sketchbook01.htm |
hey man its obvious your more advanced than me but it would be great if in a few months we were both still posting and we could see how much we've both improved
that ideas just inspired me to draw a heck of alot today even though i've got to get my coursework done |
Thanks Kondor
Yeah it does look like we are working on the same stuff. Maybe we can do some jams or something, you know pic one of the doohinkus poses and see what we can come up with*L* It might be cool.
I am almost ashamed to say that i am 26 years old. I have been drawing almost all of my life but only seriously for a few years now (and even then on and off). Basically it took a little courage to finally admit to myself that i wanted to be a comic book artist or a storyteller (long story for another time *S*). Anyway turns out my comp cannot support both the wireless net adapter abd my scanner so i will not be scanning as often as i thought at least not until i find a way around it. Hopefully that will mean though that when i do it, it will be a few drawings at least. *S* |
together it is, man
That sounds like an awesome idead dude. I had already added your sketchbook to my bookmarks anyway, so not only does that sound like a doable plan it also sounds really productive.
And i dont think i am advanced for one second so don't worry about it. And speaking of course work *S* let me go get something. |
some more sketches.
I told Katsushiro to maybe work on his eyes in his sketchbook and i decided to take my own advice after seeing a great article in the latest DRAW! magazine.
the first 2 faces were done some time after 11pm on Monday night (just before i clonked off on the table into lala land *L*) and the rest were done today. some eyes and the face in the middle led to me trying to draw some simple self-portraits. They still don't look very simple though. *L* |
hey man i'd love to do a jam sometime
it would be great, that inking assignment you did is really amazing, i was thinking of going for the penciling one when i have a well paying job, do you think the courses are worth the money?, tell you what man, do you want to pick the doohinkus pose and we'll get to drawing what we can make of it, good idea by the way, we could keep doing little practice jams to better improve ourselves ![]() |
jam entry!
This is my Jam entry Kondor. I know it neither very good nor finished. But i have a big problem with taking to long to do drawings and for such a fun jam i felt myself falling into the same patterns. so i sped it up and scanned what i had at the end of today.*S* Eager to see yours.
A couple of sketches of goalkeepers for the jam. and some more face studies.*S* ![]() |
sorry for the delay
haven't posted in a few days but i am trying hard to stick to a schedule and it seems to be paying off. Hopefully i will be able to increase the output soon.
Here's what's come of the last few days. Boots are something i have figured out i have a lot of trouble with so i did a few copies of drawings before i actually try to draw an actual boot myself.*L* The tree is something else i had a lot of trouble not too long but it has become a pleasant surprise because i am actually loving looking at trees and seeing them in my head. I will draw more of them soon. The one at the bottom, where it's just branches, has actually been inked. It has not been cleaned but it is inked. I used brush, tissue paper (yep!) and charcoal pencil. *S* With this next one i am starting my new practice sketches and my studies of textures for my next Kubet assignment. So both are water in different ways, a rainy day and a fishbowl (which i will attempt to ink tomorrow) ![]() Speaking of which, the inking is why i have not more drawings to show. As soon as i can i will show you the last inking job i did this week.*S* |
Some things
Hey guys. Been keeping an eye on some of your sketchbooks and as always great work. I have not posted anything because i try to limit my time on the web. However enough is enough and i need to post some stuff. *LOL*
![]() this is me trying to make myself get out of the house to do some sketching and life study, even if in this case is at my work, the pool at Ryde. ![]() I am really trying to work at getting better at inking for comic books and it has been bugging me for a while that i cannot really draw in ink where ever i am, at least not with a brush. So i finally went out and bought myself a couple of brush pens. This is a drawing i did directly with the brush from a comp game my g/f Lisa was playing yesterday.*S* ![]() I've started to do my second assignment for my inking course and this is my prelim for the mansion in the assig. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also for the course i have to do a frog and these are some sketches. I will do more. The last one was the first thing i did with the brush pen when i got home. It is a tracing of one of the previous drawings. *cough* I am sorry, did i say tracing? oh my gosh no no no i mean inking. *LOL* ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also since last time these are some anatomy studies that i've done. I really think you can never do enough of these so you will see more as time goes by obviously. I will also try to post what i think is good from the prelims to the next assignment. |
Your inked comic page is really beautiful! I'd love to see you use ink like that in some of your sketches. Might really make them clean and fun.
My gosh!
Saphire where did you go find this thread? *L* I was sure i was going to have to work hard to find it again myself. *L*
Anyway thanks for your comments and for the kick in the bum. Truth be told the reason i have not posted anything else is because my scanner and internet were clashing, and having to juggle the two was taking a lot of time off my hands. I i just kept doing my stuff until i could get it fixed and your post (i kid you not) was a kick up the arse to get it done and over with. And now it is. So without any further ado let's see what i have been working on shall we? Just do me a favour and don't hold your breath for anything spectacular. *S* |
