Concept Design Workshop - Wellington, April 18 - 19
So who is going? I am going.
Le List ~
Josh Nixson (Proteus)
I'm on the reserve list atm because there were no places left when i emailed. I still might come down for the weekend anyway just to hang out with you fullas, plus i've got a contact in WETA now who i want to meet up with.
See ya down for then even if i don't get into the workshop.
26th April, 10am in Aotea Square/Starbucks We'll probably stick around for an hour or so to wait for peeps to turn up and then go and find some place to draw and stuff.
ha, awh dude you should have said that in real life. I was the guy with long hair in the mac lab coughing the whole time...oh....wait........I WAS THE GUY SITTING NEXT TO YOU. haha oops. darn different screen names n stuff. it was good to meet you man.
Why do all the CA kiwis accumulate in Wellington and Auckland ----- come on guys, move to Christchurch that’s were its all happening these days. lots of gardens, its nice and flat and plenty of old people.
It’s a blast!!
(ahh who am I kidding…… )
I was born and raised in London, and my twin sister and I are thinking of heading to NZ. We have lots of family there that we have never met, and I was thinking about an open ticket (cant do NZ in a week or two)
How often do you guys meet up? What are you studying? Where do you work? etc etc
I'd just like to know more about this sketchgroup, NZ, the lifestyle out there, your experiences - I do know Shlo-Mo (tho, its been ages since I've spoken to him)
I hope this isnt too weird a request...
Hey Molly, good to see you want to reconnect with your roots, i hope it all goes well for you and your sis.
Sketch meets aren't regular but the odd one does happen now and again (in Auckland anyway, i dunno about the Wellington crowd) i'm sure the locals would get together if your passing through and want to meet up, just give us a heads up.
Dunno much about the social scene/night life in Auckland because i just can't be bothered to be honest heh!, but i'm sure there is a lot to get up to. Auckland is yer standard large city, tons to see, tons to buy, tons of bullshit, Wellington is a kooky little place seemed to suit me better anyway. Alot of awesome beaches the further up North you go, well worth a look just for those.
...and yes there are alot of sheep..those little wooly bastards!

Hey guys, we just finished putting together an interview with Paul Tobin for CGNZ - do check it out as there are some interesting tidbits. I totally recommended this to all young budding concept designers
"Paul Tobin is a conceptual designer, illustrator and graphic designer who has been working at Weta Workshop since graduating from Wellington’s Massey school of Art and Design in 2003. He has worked on films such as Andrew Adamson’s The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Peter Jackson’s King Kong and James Cameron’s Avatar Avatar and most recently The Hobbit.
He also teaches illustration at Wellington’s Massey University, and regularly runs the Concept Design Workshop together with Warren Mahy. Recently, Paul has put together a book, in conjunction with an exhibition, entitled White Cloud Worlds showcasing fantasy and sci-fi art by New Zealand artists."
Hey guys, not much going on here ay? Anyhoo CGNZ is having their second competition - "a design challenge in conjunction with the relaunched White Cloud Worlds Workshop. For the first time the Workshop is coming to Auckland, and we are giving you the chance to win a spot plus other great prizes.
Run by senior concept designers from Weta Workshop, the intense 2-day workshop gives students an introduction to the fundamental conceptual and technical skills employed in concept design.
Your challenge for this competition is to design either the creature or protagonist for a new TV series set in Auckland 110 years ago."

Need i say more?
On second thought.. it's really on the expensive side
I was wondering if you lot had any opinions on beginner level courses in Wellington. The only ones I know about are those advertised in the window of Gordon Harris - Inverlochy Art School, the Secret Art Academy and so on - and was wanting to know if anyone has any experience with any of them; what's good, what's bad, value for money, that kind of thing.
I'm just wanting some fundamentals to supplement what I'm getting from books.
CGNZ's first interview for 2013 has been posted. Thanks Christian for the wonderful read!
