just another fast 5 min sketch for the illustration
Xaya, you made one hell of a first impression on me! It's my frist time seeing your sketchbook and might I say, it's amazing!
Your figure drawings and portraits look excellent! I also liked the fact that you posted pictures of piles of sketches, that's so awesome!
Everything you've worked on looks great, I'm going to check back often for more!
@Hanuka: thank you very much... i do what i can.
@IanE: you exaggerate , thank you very much for feedback,
i will try to post more regulary in future
(still have to wait for my digicam which is in repair for some weeks)
have to finish that illustration in a week...
not completely satisfied but have to finish it till wednesday
ahh i redraw that man in the middle of that image
because it is centered it have to look good!
time passes by... much too fast
well first, i can´t show you the final of the illustration because it isn´t in my hand currently (don´t satisfied because i used "coloured pencils" (?!)
well nevermind i am on again, have my DIGICAM... NOW!
and bought a real sketchbook (canson field sketchbook 7x10 inch (a bit too small but handy))
i think it will force me to work out the sketches.
Here my first 2 examples (will draw one each day at least)
It´s night here in germany and i haven´t got a good lighting here...
what can I say??? beautiful hands, beautiful figures, great progress, soon I wont be able to keep up at all. I'm going to bed now (night here too), so goodnight, and btw, ive started updating again...
thank you O D T,
yes i think the illustration was a good exercise although the result was average.
To add a comment on the pages:
the first is live drawing of my hand partlly then imagination (forarm)
the background is a test how intensive i get dark parts... without go through the paper.
For the second page i used a ref. at the beginning.
then worked without.... don´t want to copy completely.
will have a look ODT...
here a thing i have to do for school:
task: transform a b/w photography to a impressionism piece...
not quite finish, probably add red flowers everywhere...
one page daily in sketchbook... so here are the results
this is from yesterday night, didn´t saw clearly (contact lens)
wasn´t concentrated and had a bad pencil....
was annoyed by the drawing yesterday and started a new sb
not the best but a lot better then the last
and the final gouache work

The portraits look great, you seem to have a good idea of placement of features. Favorite is the old man in the last page; shading I think really helped round out the sketch, whereas the others are a bit flatter without that extra addition.
thank you Clockwork,
it is really shading whats improve the sketches... I will work on this.
here is a 5min addition work on the sb yesterday,
not quite satisfied with the eyes but this will not be the last sb
daily keeps daily!
the big is done with ref
the left partly with ref
and the right without (don´t know why this looks so non real)
woah!! i just read your post before last!! im VERY sorry, xaya, haha, but then again it may be a slight fault of your paintings that led me to think that. the main problem was of course that I thought your name was quite feminine, anyhow, im sorry.
wonderful updates, you are getting better by the paper... your lines are now very sure!
the reason it looks slightly wrong is because the forhead is too small...the eyes are in the middle of the head, remember??

id say im at the level you were when you first posted this.. i will slog my guts out to be at the level your are at now.. the progression has impressed and inspired me
ok here the new page (not really concentrated, the anatomy is )
but for keeping my 4 stars ( ) here a better one on a wounderful
smooth and white A3 paper... hadn´t the time to do extra shading...

Xaya - who cuts his hair to look more masculine next week!
had to do another sb, wasn´t satisfied with the last...
although this one looks more similar to me it does not fit completely
(perhabs in 5 years i look like this...)

ok, nothing big but something,
this i did yesterday 3 min sketch without ref
and some stuff i did in school while a lesson... (it became a bit smeary)
i don´t know why me mechanic pencil tend to smear....
not really great stuff, will work more concentrated tomorrow....
do you fix your sketches or works, that it doesn´t smear anymore??
i love your life drawings, the only crit i probably have is the sizes of the heads and necks, they seem a bit to large for the bodies on some of your characters and life studies...other than that, please keep up the good work.
thank you very much zao75231,
it seems to be right what you said,
will keep it in mind next time
here a difficult quicky
draw your drawing hand with your drawing hand!
15min max. on carton
2 weeks since my last visit! Too long!
Awesome updates. Really like the portraits! They get better as the days go by. The painting of the stream and flowers turned out great! How large is it?
Great stuff, Xaya. I'm going to subscribe so I don't forget to check back next time! Really good progress and work!
thank you IanE,
will try to keep the pensum,
next to life and ref. drawing i will work more "brainy fantasies"
and last but never at least... study anatomy (there are still some huge lacks)
did´t spend a lot of time for this ...15min!?
some more shading and background stuff wouldn´t be so bad...
- brainy fantasies u see here
Xaya - who wants to know what to improve...
About smudging. Always have a loose piece of paper to put over your sketches and under your hand. This will reduce (almost eliminates) smearing.
One crit I can give right off...your last sketches...look how your lower eyelid almost comes down to the middle of the nose. Your rendering is looking good. And your features are coming along. Your noses look great. I would work on eyes and lips.
@van : thank you, u might be right what you said,
i have to study more on special features...
about smearing: well i didn´t meant this exactly (didn´t said what i wanted) i mean there a sprays for drawing which save the drawing against smearing... do you use this thing? i think hair spray also works... dunno.
ahh i don´t spend enough time for my sketches
here a view of my work today
